Human remains found near an archaeological site in the Guatemalan jungle are thought to be those of a US birdwatcher who was reported missing almost two and a half years ago, local officials say.
A lilac shirt, sandals and shorts which match those worn by Raymond Vincent Ashcroft the day of his disappearance were found at the same location where the human bones were discovered, Carlos Soza of the attorney-general's office
said.

Well damn, guess I’m gonna cross off bird watching in the Guatemalan jungle off my bucket list.
Always figured wandering off into a jungle in the middle of nowhere to bird watch seemed like the perfect vacation. All kind of shite in there that can kill you and dealing with insects just seems like a solid adventure.
Figured i could promote some north face while I’m out there doing all my adventuring

His last act was feeding large birds.

Sometimes you're watching the birds, sometimes the birds are watching you.

Didn’t have bird watching on my dangerous hobby list.

Probably wanted to see and photograph or film birds of paradise. Why else would anyone want to visit there?

He must have been looking for the elusive fukawi bird and got turned around in the jungle.

Birds of paradise are mostly New Guinea, none in Guatemala.
The ruins are supposed to be pretty cool. Most famous birds at Tikal are:
Ocellated Turkey:
Orange-breasted Falcon:
