The ink had not dried on the contract.

You left out quite a key detail

quote:

The opportunity to return to his alma mater was too good to pass up for Rosemond. He competed there as a player from 1997 to 1999 and returned from 2005 to 2010, first as director of basketball operations and eventually as an assistant coach.

Does it even matter? Until the entire program is revamped from the ground up, who cares about some random assistant going back to his alma mater.

Pretty significant loss , he was a very good hire and someone much needed like him on this staff . He most likely
Saw an opportunity to go back to his Alma mater and have much more job security . Where as at LSU currently , everyone realizes this is a make or break year for the current regime . And he just lost his job at Indiana bc of the same situation

Serious question. Why was he a good hire and someone much needed?

This seems like a good time to remind everyone that even in the midst of his 2nd championship in 3 years, you still didn't think Jay Johnson was a good coach. You also don't think BK is a good coach, yet for some reason, you think McMahon is a good coach.

If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were a phag. Instead, I understand you're just an idiot.

Bc he’s a guy that’s been around major college basketball for years and has came from a basketball school like Indiana . He was hired to take Tim Kaines position who was a guy that never was qualified to be an assistant coach and is just one of McMahons guys that he’s been knowing since they were young

YOU left out and HE politely left out that McCantWin and his staff are the walking dead. He professionally left out that being a Coach on this staff is like getting a job at ToysRUs the Christmas before they shut down and ceased to exist the following February. Unless a big miracle or tourney run(which for McCantWin is the same) this staff is barely alive.
Since becoming AD SW hired 5 coaches
WBB- a Natty & elite 8
Gymnastics- Natty & final four
Baseball- 2 Nattys
CBK- SEC W Champs, Heisman, TBD and feeling fire from everywhere
McCantWin- grand total of 14 SEC wins No Tourney, best finish 9th place in SEC, blowout loss to N Tex in NIT

McExcuse #1: We lost an assistant coach in July. He was one of the best assistant coaches in the nation and we’d be probably undefeated if he had stayed.

I guess. But he's been on some pretty lackluster staffs at those major conf. stops. Georgia (Mark Fox), Alabama (Avery Johnson), Indiana (Mike Woodson). None of those teams were much better than slightly above average at their best.

This feels a lot like Johnny Jones' final staff when he was left brining in LSU legacies (Randy Livingston) and LSU re-treads (Robert Kirby). McMahon didn't really "poach" Rosemond from Indiana. He needed a spot after the Indiana staff was let go following the season. Notably, Oregon has had an assistant coach spot open since April. Sounds like they couldn't fill it with their initial choices and had to circle back to an alum...who seems to have jumped pretty quickly.

I'll never blame a guy for leaving for his alma mater. But the optics don't look great for a program that needs all the positive news it can get.

The McMen Minutemen in February 2026:

“What is Matt to do? Poor guy keep getting bad break after bad break! Ignore our 2-12 conference record. Our staff was gutted! One more year! Wade is not coming back!!!!”
