Lost A Damn Good Dog Yesterday - Update: Lost Our Sweet Girl Too

It is with a sad and heavy heart that I must update this thread so soon after losing Beau. We lost our sweet girl pup Bella on Monday evening. Intestinal complication that came without warning. The vet advised that even with surgery the road to recovery at her age would be difficult and she would likely have spent the rest of her days in discomfort to put it lightly. So we had to say goodbye and put her to rest. Sorry to bring y’all down again but I wanted to honor her memory with him.
She made it to 9 1/2 years old without many major health issues, which I’m told is lucky for her breed. Just the sweetest girl you could ask for. She loved eating (sweet potatoes), greetings at the door, laying in my lap, chasing bumblebees around the yard and throwing herself into pillows on the bed. I’m hurt again by just how suddenly it happened, but knowing the vet was able to ease her suffering in her last moments and she didn’t have to live in pain provides some relief. My heart aches although I know she’s in a better place and reunited with her buddy once more.
Goodbye, Bella. RIP Sweet Girl
Got a text last night, “Beau is gone.” Beaumont “Beau” would have been 9 at the end of the year. Feels like just yesterday this puffy little punk came into my life. And now he’s just gone. One moment he’s fine. The next he starts acting funny and breathing heavily. Then he just collapsed. Died suddenly.
This hurts. He was such a cool dude. Just a big ole silly bastard that would bark a big game then whimper away while putting this stupid grin on his face. The 140lb Great Pyrenees Chicken. He had personality and good taste in music. Elvis, Johnny Cash and Neil Young were his guys. Sometimes you’d catch him in his feelings listening to “Heart of Gold” or “Harvest Moon” and he’d howl along like he had the blues or something. He would even dance a little. Could stand up eye to eye with me on his back legs and paws over my shoulders and we’d sway while he’d stare at me with that goofy face.
It’s the suddenness that’s so hard for me. Nothing we could do. No signs that anything was wrong till it wasn’t. Only 8 1/2 years old just doesn’t seem fair. But, at least I understand what happened and that this eventually always will happen. His lifelong buddy, Bella (The Bernese), however, will wake up each morning, go along each day, lay down for bed each night, without him by her side anymore after being inseparable for his entire life. She won’t know where he’s gone, but she’ll know he’s not there any more. As much as he means to me, they were true companions.
Just thought I would make a post to share his memory with you all. Going through all the photos I have of him both helps and hurts. I wasn’t able to say goodbye. That cuts like a knife. For now, this wound is fresh, and I know with time it will heal, but also with time, the memories I have will fade. So, I wanted to honor his memory here, and say farewell to the best damn dog a guy could ask for.
Goodbye, Beau. RIP Big Guy.

My condolences.
I get sad sometimes looking at the white fur in Stella's face now that she's older.

I wonder if back in the day before the internet people took out ads in the local newspaper to let strangers know their pet had died?

Nothing better than a good dog. Especially a big goofy floof. I'm sorry for your loss. At least you know he was loved and he knew it as well.

Luckily you can get another to replace it .

Both beautiful dogs. Sorry for the loss of your pup, man. That’s the trouble with dogs…they just don’t live as long as we do.

“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion.
There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price.” – Dean Koontz
