Why is there a Spruce Hall at LSU?

Nary a spruce tree grows native in this state. The Spruce Pine grows in limited numbers in the Florida Parishes, but it is a spruce in name only, being properly designated a pine. Louisiana can harbor Spruces in the more northern regions, but they are transplants, not native: difficult to grow and do not thrive. LSU could have named it Oak Hall, Cedar Hall, Magnolia Hall, or any number of other worthy names. To name it for a tree that isnt even part of our native biosphere is a travesty.

LSU is located in one of the Florida parishes.
Originally, the hall separated male and female students on different floors. In 1893, it was repurposed for physics, civil, and electrical engineering. The hall was later named "Spruce Hall" in 1954 due to the nearby trees.

They lied when they named the countries (really).

Spruce Hall is located near Aster St. Gotta keep plant names together.

Why is it called a near miss when actually it was a near hit?
Posted on 7/21/25 at 7:06 am to Jim Rockford
Because the campus was originally in Pineville.

Why is it called taking a dump instead of leaving a dump? I’m mean, after all, you’re not taking it anywhere.

At the airport, the skyway is for pedestrians, and the runway is for airplanes.
