These courses only defense is bad weather conditions.

For the Pro's and the modern equipment, they just take them apart in good weather.

Scotty is playing great, but 17 under in a Open is boring golf.

The R&A needs to either toughen these courses up or build new ones.

This particular course isn’t all that tough for sure without conditions. Lowry was at -15 in 2019 when he won.

I agree that The Open can turn into a birdie barrage without weather, but damn what a take.

Courses aren’t the answer, weather is. If what you propose, the course would be unplayable if typical “Open” weather shows up…

The Open is more fun when the players suffer some.

Benign conditions are boring and uneventful.

His point is if you “build new ones” and the weather does show up, it will be borderline ridiculous and also not fun to watch. Sometimes it shows up sometimes it doesn’t, accept it for what it is

All majors are more entertaining in that sense, but there’s a point where it’s almost too much. Oakmont this year was almost too much with the crazy rough and the terrible weather. I like watching them struggle but there were times at Oakmont where I felt like I was watching abuse (specifically with the Sam Burns standing water ruling)

Low score wins.

Some years are lower than others.

My point is that these historic courses were not built for 350 yard drives and golf balls that want to go straight.

Or they can be firmer in their resolve with the USGA and really do a ball rollback instead of the half measure that is coming in a few years.

I get what you’re saying but this is just a bad take. They played the course at 7400. This is links golf. Weather is erratic and you’re truly at the mercy of it. Wind could blow 30, rain could be there all day, rain could be off and on all day, it could rain and the wind blow 20-30, or the weather could be perfect. They got lucky this week but that course wasn’t easy. Just because one golfer made it appear boring doesn’t mean they needs to truly change the courses or do anything different. This is the one time of the year we truly get to see players use their imaginations all over the course.

I guess I don’t see a problem with the best player in the world playing well.

The Open has had some low scores before with good weather.

Stinson and Michelson shot like 20 under several years ago.

It happens. At some point the will go back to Carnoustie, have bad weather and 3 over will win.

It is what it is.

The roll back and equipment thing bothers me the most, people wanna act like the players have nothing to do with the distance and speed also. I've seen videos where they challenge pros to hit old persimmons and titaniums and they are still hitting it 20-30 yards past their past counterparts were then.

The NFL didn't make the fields longer because everyone is faster and the cleats are better and the uniforms are more aerodynamic

You still just have to score lower the the other 150 guys in the tournament and that's the whole point.

No courses were built for this.

Portrush is incredible.

Blame the equipment.

exactly, you don't change the field because of performance.

What an awful take.

So you've only enjoyed a handful of Open Championships ever? Because it's not a tournament that finishes around even par. It's usually -10 or more.
