It always has been. They've perfected their craft (most any craft they take on) and take pride in passing it down and learning it. They value those skills on a level that we just don't.

And they’ve been doing it for a couple thousand years.

The port city and the mountain village in The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise made me realize how remarkable Japanese archtiecture and enginuity is.

While Amish furniture is quite durable 99.9% of it is not built to a very high level of craftsmanship. They tend to build to a price point. There are lots of boutique furniture makers in the US that build to much higher standards and certainly their prices reflect it.

if you are interested in the tools themselves, a company in Canada called Lee Valley has a large selection of Japanese tools. Lee Valley has expanded and has a few US stores. I have ordered hardware from them and the quality has been excellent and timely,

The thing about Japanese is they tend not to be a jack of all trades. They pick 2 or 3 things and get good

I am more of a Western plane (I like to push not pull) and Western design chisel person but I know Lee Valley well because I like their hand tools better than Lie Nielsen (Maine) in part because of the excellent powdered metal options they have for plane blades and chisels. Outside of a few Bridge City Toolworks planes (before John sold to Harvey in China) all my planes are Veritas made by Lee Valley.

Is this a way Cajuns talk? I see it only on here. Btw, JB weld is the single best invention of mankind for $4. Better than Gorilla Glue by a lot.

A welder let me weld. It was cool, but the eye opening to see through is wayy too small I feel unless there's some safety risk for that. Couldn't see shite. Less vision than those 9 bar facemask batting helmets I used in 11/12. I had to saw off some of the bars, so I could simply see the pitch. It crossed 3 bars on that helmet from my point of view between pitcher release to crossing home plate.

I dunno man, I saw the Holy Grail on the Indiana Jones movie and wasn’t that impressed with the work. Other than that it could kill Nazis of course.
