The whale is an anonymous early Bitcoin holder from 2011, known as a "Satoshi-era" entity. They transferred ~80,000 BTC (worth ~$9.6B) to Galaxy Digital for likely OTC sale. No public identity; the wallet had been dormant for 14 years.

Yes, if cashing out to USD via Galaxy Digital's OTC desk, the whale must undergo KYC/AML checks to comply with US regulations, revealing their identity to Galaxy—though it remains publicly anonymous.

Why would anyone sell BTC for USD when BTC is so useful for daily transactions and the USD is just fiat trash?

I wish someone could explain to me exactly how BTC is valued considering there is nothing but interwebs behind it.

The difference between this dude buying in 2011 and forgetting it for 14 years, and me buying in 2017 and trying to day trade it for a couple, is about 9.6 billion dollars.

There is nothing behind the US dollar besides faith that it has value.

Why is a $20 bill worth more than a $5 bill? They are the same size and material.

It’s backed by the United States military and treasury.

What military backs bitcoin?
