Headed to Ruston for my daughter's softball tournament next weekend. I was born and raised in Louisiana, but never been to Ruston other than driving through. Any recommendations on eats? TIA

I can't remember the name but I've been to a brewery and pizza joint that was in the downtown area. I didn't try any beer but I thought the pizza was pretty good.

Utility brewing

You could have also just googled “Ruston brewery” and it would have come right up

I highly recommend the Bloody Mary from Ponchatoulas. I think the burger was pretty good but honestly it doesn't matter much after a couple of BMs.

Griff’s and Ponchatoula’s would be my picks. Hot Rod BBQ is good too. I’ve never at Log Cabin but it’s a popular restaurant.

Bristers/Dowlings (I’m drawing a blank on the name now, it’s one of those two and it was the other like 15 years ago) is better but I’m not sure if it’s still open. Heard it was closing if it didn’t sell.

Utility is decent, Bristers like I said, or Sundown would be my choices. Trios also isn’t bad but may only be open at night

Yes it is and the burgers and fries are good. I’ve never heard anyone complain about Griff’s. And the OP didn’t ask for fine dining establishments.

What exactly is terrible about it? I’m from Monroe and I’ve only eaten there 3 times I think. The meals were good and it always has a crowd. What did you order that was terrible?

The food is not good and it takes forever. It’s edible, but there’s many, many places I’d rather go in Ruston. Nothing on their menu is the best in town

Log Cabin is really good. Big menu and everything I’ve eaten was tasty.

You need to hit the food truck park downtown while you’re here. If you like Brisket there is a great place called bad wolf bbq. There are a couple of other good food trucks too that do burgers and sandwiches. It’s a simple 5 minute drive from the ballparks too. A lot of the ball teams go to flying burger while here too. They do good burgers and offer some other stuff like sandwiches and salads too. Griffs is great also if you like old school burgers.

When’s the last time you’ve been? Sundown is under new ownership and much better than the Sysco shite they sell at Ponch

I would suggest Ponchatulas or Utility Brewing. Sundown is pretty good but they have a pretty limited menu.

Couple of months ago. And it was under new ownership when we went. I got the club poboy and it had 1 little slice of roast beef, ham, and turkey on it. Atmosphere was cool sitting out in the little courtyard, but the food was underwhelming.

I get the turkey melt every time and it was exactly the same as it’s always been to me.

Only difference is it didn’t take 45 minutes to get a turkey sandwich because everyone working there wasn’t stoned out of their mind like they used to be.

I would just never recommend Ponch to anyone who only had a meal or two in Ruston. It’s mid AF in my opinion
