It’s time to replace our mattress. Our current mattress is a Sealy memory foam that’s probably 10 yrs old. It’s been ok, but was never really my favorite. It was a little firm for my liking. I’m not opposed to going back to a traditional mattress. What do y’all recommend?

I recently stumbled across this site that might help you. They even give mattresses a “sex” score.

another vote for sleep #. air will not wear out. I bought the model with the least amount of memory foam on top so its let to wear out.

I like pocketed/wrapped coil with a thin (<=2”) layer of latex. Think they’re called hybrids now.

We got a Saatva and love it.

Isn’t there a guy in BR who does mattress builds at a fraction of what you pay retail? Seems I recall hearing people rave about the place…

Yes if in the BTR area it's wholesale mattress and factory. They make custom mattresses on site. They will show you a tour of the "factory". You can see the dudes putting the coils into the mattress frames.
He make full coil mattress, hybrids (coil with foam top), and full foam mattress. You can also tell him the firmness you like.
We have a hybrid going on at least 10 yrs now. It's a little less firm than when we bought it, but still holding up.

You might have wanted to mention what you weigh, etc. Maybe you are 150 or 240, we don't know. Zinus is reliable, but my kids don't know the difference from some rando memory foam shite bought from Wayfair.

We’re probably about 15 years on our sleep number after wasting an embarrassing amount of money on other mattresses that we immediately hated and regretted. Due to the construction there is never sag, even 15 years into it. Just adjust the air back where it should be.

Capital Bedding in BR also makes custom mattresses. He’s my cousin though so if you don’t like it (or him) I’m not responsible LOL.
I needed a new mattress quickly over the holidays and ordered a dreamcloud mattress in a box and so far so good. If you are concerned about firmness it’s a good choice (I would like it firmer honestly)

Get something with pocket coils, preferable a ton of them. If you're average or above in weight, it will be more comfortable than a traditional memory foam mattress. We got two Purple mattresses already and love them. The second one we got is a discontinued style that we acquired from Mattress Firm and got a giant credit from them to use towards a really nice alternative down comforter. The mattress isn't for everyone. My cousin tried it out and didn't like the feeling of the grid on it, but I don't notice it after putting a sheet and mattress protector on it. You can get a solid Purple hybrid mattress for under $4k (if King size) but if you want to demo some out, go to Ashley Furniture. They have a pretty big room full of mattresses.

Just clicked and read a quick blurb on mattress firmness. I'll be reading more on that site. And not necessarily because of the sex score. Thanks for sharing.

I got a Nectar memory foam mattress on a deal about 8 years ago. Have been extremely satisfied with it.

We got the original Casper mattress over 10 years ago and we still love it.
Talk to lot of people who have a Purple and they like it. Sleep number is probably 60/40; some love it, others don't or have some problems
Above all, research the company's return policy and make sure its at least 90 days..
