Former MLB pitcher Dan Serafini was convicted Monday of first-degree murder of his father-in-law and attempted murder of his mother-in-law over a financial dispute.
Serafini, a 51-year-old who spent seven seasons in the majors from 1996-2007, was found guilty in the 2021 shooting of 70-year-old Robert Gary Spohr, and in the attempted murder of Spohr’s wife, Wendy Wood, ABC News reported. Serafini has also been convicted of first-degree burglary.
The former starter/reliever reportedly entered his in-laws’ house in Homewood, Calif., on June 5, 2021, three hours before an eventual 911 call, and waited with a .22 caliber gun for three hours before attacking the couple, prosecutors said, per ABC.

Prosecutors reportedly said this fatal incident stemmed from a $1.3 million spat regarding a ranch renovation project, with the elderly couple making that investment, according to abc10.com.
Serafini wrote, “I’m gonna kill them one day,” in a text message prosecutors revealed regarding $21,000, per abc10.com.
He also sent messages stating, “I will be coming after you” and “Take me to court,” per the outlet.

He went 15-16 with a 6.04 ERA in his career that spanned six different teams after being selected by the Twins in the 26th round of the 1992 draft.
Serafini spent three years with the Twins from 1996-98 before spending time with the Cubs, Pirates and Padres during the 1999-2000 seasons.

I believe he was on an episode of Bar Rescue a few years ago

Believe so. She said it wasn’t her husband in the video entering her parents house. She praised him as a father and husband.
His sentencing is on 18 Aug.
Not sure if article mentions the $23M inheritance he wanted if her parents died.

He married into money, went broke, and went after the in-laws because they were either cutting him/his wife off or to get their inheritance. They had been supporting the 2 + grandkids, wouldn’t be shocked if the wife was an accessory, just shitty all the way around

Now he's going to be a catcher.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure his wife tried to paint him as innocent, knowing all along what went down.

In the end, Erin received none of that money; Wood disinherited Erin and then died by suicide in February 2023, nearly two years after she was shot.
Erin does, however, still own half of her parents' Lake Tahoe home, which was put in a trust in her name back in 2017 by her parents.
She has also continued to stand by her husband, and the two, along with Scott, are also facing a wrongful death lawsuit which was filed by Erin's sister Adrienne four months before Serafini’s arrest.

Husband was also having an affair with the babysitter who’s 16 years younger and also facing murder charges. Everything about these people makes you want to vomit

Are you sure she is facing murder charges? I thought she testified against him to avoid charges.

Someone earlier asked why wife stayed with him after he killed her Dad and attempted kill her mother:
Wife of Daniel Serafini Testified He Did Not Kill Her Dad. Days After His Murder Conviction, She Filed for Divorce

He was supposed to be sentenced 18 Aug. He has said he wants a new trial, different lawyers, etc.. The courts agreed to move the sentencing to Oct. Is this normal, I thought you get sentenced and can file any motions you want. He was convicted, on what legal basis would they move sentencing in this case?
