No pocket knife in Europe (Paris)?

I carry a pocket knife all of the time, wife is saying that’s a no in Paris. I’d bring the smaller one, and may even take off the deep pocket clip. Chuck it in my luggage…
Would the Parisians shite if I flipped it out to spread butter on my baguette?

do you ask your wife’s permission for everything you do?

Don’t want to frick up an anniversary trip by being stuck in customs with a weapon.

What's the blade length on what you'd be carrying? Is it non-lockable? From a quick Grok inquiry, carrying knives of any sort is prohibited unless you have a purpose, like camping. "Transporting" is evidently different from "carrying", so Grok advises you to carry it in a bag and say you're transporting it to/from said purpose.
The European countries make it almost impossible to have anything on you to defend yourself. Even a stick in Britain can be a problem.

< 3”, and yea it locks.
I don’t carry it for self protection…I used it this morning to spread cream cheese on my bagel…open mail, clean fingernails, stir a drink…like most people.

Good idea, just buy one there. There are some cool French brands like Laguiole.

No. They would correctly identify as a redneck from the US.

Very likely they would flip out. I have a larger pocket knife and a British colleague (who is not exactly a liberal dunce, he is country folk that works in heavy industry) recoiled in horror. Wouldn't touch it. "m8 I'll go to jail for that!".
We were in Louisiana, you might go to jail for not touching it. ha!!!

You just have to stir a bourbon on the rocks before you go from fingernails to bagel.

Any time someone borrows a knife from me and uses it for culinary purposes, I wait until they are finished and say, "I used that yesterday to scrape dogshit off my boots."

The thought of you cleaning fingernails, opening mail, stirring a drink, and spreading cream cheese all with the same utensil...

I’d imagine this guy is exactly what the average Fenchmen thinks the average American is like.
ETA…and people would (and should react) if you whipped out a pocket knife to butter bread in any restaurant in any civilized country.

Laguiole
Most impressive array of pocketknives for sale I've ever seen was at a Saturday market near the Laguiole region, and I was told it is the same in Thiers. Local craftsmen and small shops by unfinished knives and then fashion custom grips. That said, a lot of "Laguiole-looking" knives also come in from Pakistan.
If you are only in Paris visit LINK
Expensive but definitely authentic.

Am I the only one that finds this incredibly bizarre and even more bizarre to even think of bringing on vacay?
