Has anyone here hiked the Maroon Bells trail from CB to Aspen?

We have to be in Colorado Springs next year so we are considering this, since we will be out that way.

There is a trail called the Grand Traverse that goes between the two towns. Its about 38 miles, I think, don't recall exactly. The first part of the trail (out of Crested) isn't marked great and crosses very close to private prop. You might run into a crazy arse woman with a gun if you get on her property. I don't know if she is still around.

Probably take you about 18-24 hrs of moving time if you are fit and move fast. Will need to camp unless you are familiar with running 50-100 mile ultras. Any reason you want to do this? There are many easier to access and less remote areas that are just as beautiful all over the place.

Never did the hike but I've Jeeped all over that area especially around Crystal Mill. Would always hit up the BBQ place in Marble after a day on the trails.

How you planning to get back to CB? An out and back is going to take a lot of time.

Dude said from CB to Aspen. Its 24 miles as the crow flies and 100+ miles to drive. There are many trails in that area. Hard to know what he's talking about..

It is an 11 mile hike from starting at Schofield Pass trailhead, just above Emerald Lake. You end up at the Maroon Bells trailhead where Highland buses run regularly to get you to town.

Definitely a logistics issue. May stay in Aspen two days to rest, then hike back.

You drive 45 minutes to start the hike from CB.

The hike is 11 miles I was not saying city hall to city hall.

Aspen is way on the other side of the front range from Colorado Springs. Why not go to Garden of the Gods and Pike’s Peak instead?

Rode my mountain bike to CB with a few guys I worked with in Aspen. Spent the night in CB and rode back the next day. I was acclimated to the altitude and was young and in great shape so it was no big deal. But that was 25 years ago

You can also hike Hanging Lake and spend a few days in Glenwood Springs. There's more to do in Glenwood than Aspen.

I like the idea of a soak in the springs afterwards.

I'd recommend going to the amusement park on top the mountain. The swing over the canyon is a thrill. Rollercoaster as well.

They have a pretty good fire rolling in the Gunnison right now called the South Rim Fire. It could get smoky depending on the wind. They had dry thunderstorms pass through the area a couple days ago that started a lot of new fires.
