Supplements for Energy & Fatigue
Posted on 7/9/25 at 1:28 pm

I suffer from very low energy and excessive sleepiness/fatigue on a daily basis. I have sleep apnea and consistently use my CPAP and am taking a daily vitamin and other supplements. I recently started taking organic ashwadandha but haven't been on it long enough to feel any benefit. Are there supplements that anyone else has used that you saw a huge benefit from?

What’s your height, weight, and exercise habits?

6'1 188. I don't get much exercise and I know that is definitely a part of it. Just don't ever have the energy or motivation to even start exercising because I'm always so tired. I need something that will energize me to get motivated to exercise.

Being in better shape will do this.

Diet and exercise. It’s mental. Energy with no motivation still lands you in the same rut. Set a goal, start working toward it.

What's your general age? Low T could be a reason. May be worth getting it checked out if you haven't lately.
I'm not an expert but I do pretend to be one on message boards.

Early 50s. I have had my T levels checked multiple times and they are normal.

Can it never be just general laziness?
Get off your arse and do something. Report back on 90 days if symptoms persist

But big pharma can’t sell you a pill for that. Need to keep the stock price up

Do like the rest of us and pound a Monster, Reign Storm, C4, or Ghost and walk inside a gym.
Move around for an hour
Go home
Repeat the next day
In a week or two you’ll know what to actually do in the gym

Yeah it’s a vicious cycle tired and achy so you don’t do anything and then you’re more tired and achy.
I heard someone on a podcast talk about training and how it’s hard to just train without a goal ie wanting to look good attract girls or compete in sports.
I started training to be able to live an active lifestyle into my 70-80s and hunt in cool places. I work out 3-5 times a week and run a bunch and hike. I went from being a tired out of shape 250# to 215# and running marathons and I’m 50yrs old.

When i left the mines, I gained a lot, just from not walking everywhere, lol. Decided 2 months ago to start back at gym and eat better. Tired of being a fatass. And will hopefully have grandchildren in the next few years. So, I want to be able to do things with them, Lord willing.

Got my T tested and sure enough - very low end of normal.

What level was it? I was told mine was normal in the 300s. A few months later I was in the 100s and feeling like you describe. I had to force my PCP to check my T again after he ran all other tests under the sun. Don’t just take what you hear at face value.

I got prescribed provigil awhile back and like it. Shouldn't be hard to get with sleep apnea

Normal testosterone levels for adult males typically range from 265 to 923 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL
You realize how big of a range that is? You could be 266 or 922, and there's nothing to see here? If your car gets between 140 miles to the tank, or 405 miles to the tank, don't worry about it, it's normal?
What is "normal" even in a dubious range like that may not be normal for *you.* If you were at 550 ten years ago, and felt good, but now you're at 320, and feel like crap, then it's not normal for *you.*

I second the rec for provigil. It works great for me. Most of my career as an icu nurse has been at night, and I got tired with fighting the intense fatigue and sleepiness that I had on my days (what y'all call "night") when I didn't work. I have no problem staying awake on my work days(nights) because it's busy as frick, but on my days off I'd struggle to feel fully awake and I often had no drive to do much and it felt like life was just ticking away. I'd often only make it halfway through my "day" and just feel so damn tired I'd go back to bed, ("why not? it's 0123, what is there to do? just go to bed, frick it") and then that would throw off my sleep schedule.
I take modafinil, the generic, and I have enjoyed it's subtle impact. It's not stimulating, it doesn't impact my HR or BP, no jitters or "up" feeling like I hear about from stuff like adderall, vyvanse, ritalin etc, it just makes me feel fully awake and alert and in the mood to do shite. It's most wonderful benefit that I've discovered is that it is the most effective sleep aid I've taken so far in my life. By keeping me awake and active for a full day, it has helped my sleep hygiene quite a lot. I go to bed and get out of bed at more consistent times and get a longer sleep in while I'm down because there are no more naps. I'm not a guy that can handle naps, it throws everything off.
TLDR: I sleep better when I'm supposed to sleep because I'm more wakeful when I'm supposed to be awake. One supports the other. Sorry, I know your question was about a supplement and this is a prescription medication, but I never found any supplement that really dealt with fatigue/sleepiness. 20 years ago I would have said caffeine because it worked like a charm for years, until it didn't. I began to adapt to caffeine and had to chase higher and higher doses until it's too much and it's jacking up your HR/BP and messing with your sleep. It was a dead end. Modafinil fixed me right up.

No idea how y’all sleep with provigil. Even if I take it at 0400, my sleep that night is still absolute shite.
