And it's a full blow addiction. I'm practicing at least once a week either at an indoor facility or by playing a round. My swing has been incredibly consistent, so I got fitted for new irons last week. Callaway Elytes. Went from 127 to 110 and just shot a best of 102. Progress!

Here is my issue. My indoor practice facility is shutting down this week. I don't believe there is a public range within 50 miles of Thibodaux unless you pay for a full round unless you count Atchafalaya. I think this leaves me with one real option. I need to build a garage simulator.

I've taken a look around, and I think my best bet is either Rapsodo, Garmin R10, or Square. Have any of you used these before, have any tips or suggestions? I'd like to keep this as budget as possible. Sub 2k.

I have a Swing Caddie that I carry around with me to practice with. They can be as cheap at $200ish. It won’t give you the same allure as a simulator will, but it’s a cheap and accurate alternative

I always recommend camera based launch monitors when using inside in smaller spaces. The original SkyTrak is pretty cheap these days. You can find them brand new for $700 now, used even cheaper.

I got the Garmin R10 as a new golfer about a month ago and can confidently say that few people on earth have taken more swings than me in that time.

I’m not trying to go into debt for golf, which is why I bought the R10, but I am completely satisfied with it so far.

I’m not getting new clubs until I’m a scratch golfer.

For the record, I use mine in a garage/shop with a less than ideal setup, and I believe it’s tracking accurately. Or, I should say that my distances on the course track with my distances in the garage.

I was planning on not getting fitted until I could break 90, but I'm a tall guy using standard length clubs, while also using 19 yr old clubs. Figured even if I only play once a month, it's a better investment than my boat which hasn't moved in 6 months.

Does the r10 track dispersion? And if it does, does it do it well? I'm aways away from purchasing one, but the Rapsodo seems to be suggested a lot. Have a Garmin Xero for reloading and Im very happy with it.

Rapsodo

It works fine at home on a mat, but absolutely sucks at the range. The area where your ball has to be placed is fairly small, so you're having to reposition the unit fairly often as your divot line moves.

Join Ellendale. It’s fairly cheap and right up 311. Food sucks but the range is always open.

Yes it does.

If anything, it seems like I pull the ball a lot more in my garage than I do on the course. That could be because I’m really swinging out my shoes in the garage vs how I swing on the course.

Or it could be that the shot tracking is slightly off.

I tend to think it’s tracking well.

I have a Rapsodo MLM2Pro and love it..

now you do have to use those RCT balls for spin numbers which isn't possible on the range, but if you're doing some short chipping then you're good.. Otherwise you're hitting into a net..

I do enjoy the slowmo camera and well as the specialized impact camera.. If swing gets hinky in anyway the you can pinpoint issues ...

square is miles ahead of the OG skytrack.

MLM2Pro is the best of the bunch in terms of bang for your buck, but as others have said you need a lot of space for it.

I haven't used square, yet. From what I've seen, it requires you to use their specific ball, is that correct? If so, that would be a deal breaker for me. It may not matter to the OP, but something to consider if you want to see your actual spin rates.

Honestly, I don't know how much I'd use one at the range. If range balls are going to fly a bit differently than balls I'd play with, what good is needing super precise data. Range I go to has enough flags I can confirm distances on with my range finder and I can see dispersion issues. Really just want the monitor for net work. Right now I can only tell if I'm making good contact. Not enough feedback with the net to correct swing path or anything like that.

I've thought about different trackers/monitors, and getting a net to set up at home but I always talk myself out.
Range Balls like you mentioned, and even just hitting off the mat makes the club & ball respond so differently from outside on the range or course grass that I just wonder how much true impact it would have. I definitely understand the value of practice and repetition and muscle memory and all that, and as an upper 80-low 90 shooter I certainly need to practice more but I guess I haven't seen or spoken in depth with someone enough that has made significant improvements from track monitors and hitting off mats to make we want to invest

Curious on the boards thoughts?

I use my all the time.. when I hit good and bad shots I'm able to go back and see what i did and in slow motion plus the numbers minus spin are pretty damn accurate

I have a BLP I use it on the range as well. I focus on working on club data. Don’t pay much attention to the ball data when hitting range balls.

That one time "stock" purchase is now 3k with 2k a year in dues. I'll pass.

Not saying you should get a membership just starting out. But that is pretty dcheap for a membership. If you are going to a range regularly and playing twice a month, you'd be saving money.

I have an R10 that I set up at the range occasionally. My range is an old and new mix of range balls and whatever regular found balls or what gets hit into the range off of the adjacent holes. I set the R10 up to the “driving range” setting and just hit balls like normal. As long as it’s set up fairly level, square, and the right distance away from the impact zone, I would say it’s pretty accurate.
The shot that is drawn on the screen matches pretty closely with what I see in the air.
