Am I crazy for thinking it would be fine to do Disney in July?

My wife says it’ll be too hot. I don’t mind the heat as much and most of the lines are inside. We’re not fat and keep in good shape so walking in the heat isn’t going to be a challenge.
We’ve got a week coming up where we can take a trip. We can go to Disney, stay three nights at the All Star Movies resort, two park days, and a water park day for $2200. Add in food, travel, and extra shite and we’ll hit $3000.
We’d rather not go to the beach.
Considering Soundwaves at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, but it seems really overpriced. I’m not a fan of the resort in general and spending $1500 for two nights and one water park day seems ridiculous.

Orlando is pretty swamp arse and they get a decent amount of those afternoon rains that make it humid AF in the afternoons.
Being at Disney AND it being hot and humid as balls seems pretty miserable to me

Yeah but do you even like Disney?
This is more of a trip for the kids than for myself, so the hot and humid might suck but they’ll appreciate the “magic.”

Lol frick yeah its going to be hot. Even the lines that are inside most of them you start outside, yes Disney does a good job of helping but its still going to be hot as frick

Have you seen how magic that miserable, barely awake kids can manage to appreciate? Day 1 might not suck too bad. It doesn't sound like you really have a choice anyway.
I'm not sure how you're spending that much on the Gaylord (multiple rooms?), I just booked three nights at the one in Dallas that priced out under $1k (not including parking, etc.)

Nashville must be the place to be. The price also includes the water park tickets and estimated food costs.

No one goes there in July because it is too crowded.

Nope. We switched to the summers when crowd levels started to drop and love it.
Leave on Friday for a week at the Boardwalk.
Here’s what I suggest.
Rope drop on days you don’t get lightning lanes or multi pass, mid day break then go back on the evening. The next day, start a little later but use multi pass and lightning lanes. Then, a half day or water park then repeat the process with another rope drop day, etc.

None of this is true.
Just look at the wait times.

Everything I've looked into says this is one of the best times to go to avoid crowds and lines. Because it's so miserably hot.
I actually watched a video yesterday from a family who planned on buying genie/lightning/fast passes (whatever they're called now) but didn't because none of the rides had more than a 45 minute wait and most had 15-20 minute waits.

It's hot, but the parks have been empty. It's kind of ideal if you want to go and the heat isn't a real deterrent.

Disney in July?
I personally won't give that place my money but if I were a fan, I'd go in the fall when it's cooler and not peak-season.

It's hot from July - August. July is crazy busy especially the week before and after the 4th. Starting the second week of August you start to see some slow down since schools are starting to ramp back up.

Eh, not really. Almost all lines start outside and only the last 15 minutes is actually inside. In Magic Kingdom, pretty much everything is covered though except the speedway. Hollywood Studios has a pretty even mix of inside and outside (but I find this to always be the hottest park with how its set up). Epcot is probably the best for inside lines. Animal Kingdom has almost no inside lines (but probably the coolest of the 4 parks with the openness and landscaping).
You also mentioned staying at All Star Movies. That's on the bus line, so you will have to stand outside in the heat for that as well.
In any case, literally thousand of families go to the parks every day in the same "heat" and survive. Only you know what your family is OK with so if you don't think its too hot then go ahead.

Post after post people are claiming Summer is peak season, or crazy busy. The reality is, that hasn't been the case in almost 10 years.
Why Summer is the New Low Crowds Season at Disney World
If you're looking for a time to go when school is not in session, no time of the year is less busy than the summer. Not only that, the parks are opened for longer / later in the summer making it easier to take mid day breaks.

The crowds follow each other. When a new low crowd time starts getting popular, the crowds start swelling during that time. Mid summer is the new low crowd time, expect it to get worse in a few years, but now is the time to do it.
The heat is too miserable for me having to deal with Disney though.

This summer has been our radar for a few years since we knew epic universe was opening and as we saw with Harry Potter, that was going to impact the WDW parks. The fact that they're still offering resort discounts at WDW even surpasses what I expected.
The more and more Disney added festivals throughout the year, the less and less crowded summer got. Now, many of those summer trips are pushed up to International Festival of the Arts or back to Food & Wine.
In 2025, they don't have festivals from June 3 to August 27. There is also a small time period around Thanksgiving without one (November 24-28, 2024, and November 29 through December 30, 2024) and then basically from the New Year until Marathon Weekend (December 31, 2024 through January 16, 2025).

Yeah, I loved going to the festivals when they were low crowd, now that shite is so busy because everyone loved them too. I expect them to add something in summer or do something to shift the crowds around a bit. I hope they do because I don't usually go in the summer.

I am the same way, BUTTTT...how much do you mind your wife and kids complaining about dealing with the heat?
If you can tolerate it, and the app shows the lines are not terrible; I'd pull the trigger if the kids are older (need my 3-year-old to be a little older). We are still in the fine line of having to carry them, ride on shoulders, by mid to late afternoon for a break. F all that in 90+ degree heat with humidity.
As others mentioned, you have to watch for the pop-up showers in the afternoon. Just bring a light poncho and plan for any of the shows you want to catch. We would also adjust our eating schedules based on higher chances of rain. Maybe have a good breakfast a little later than normal, catch some snacks between the 11am - 1pm time frame, and have a sit-down lunch in that 3pm - 5pm range if this is the highest chance of rain.

I’ve taken kids twice in July and it’s miserable. You’ll be exhausted just from trying to not lose your patience. How old are your kids?
It’s much more enjoyable November thru March.
