Not the LSU maintenance tunnels or the downtown Huey P Long tunnel

ETA: These are drainage tunnels. The Keating Club from Dead Poet's Society never used these to secretly traverse the city.

Has anyone been in the underground tunnels running all over downtown Baton Rouge?

Ever been hanging out in Baton Rouge and by the Cane’s on Highland and State? If you head down State a bit further there is this culvert canal thing that looks like this:

I never gave it much thought when I lived up there in BR.

Fast forward to now. The Internet gave me instant access to
information about this thing – it is now called “Corporation Canal,”
but was ORIGINALLY Bayou Duplantier. Old maps from the 1800s show it,
and I believe they re-routed it in the 1920s when they dug the University
and City Park lakes adjacent to the LSU campus. Anyway, it goes on
for MILES. I was able to track its course with Google Earth/Google
Maps, and followed it all the way from the LSU area to downtown BR,
but noticed that it just DISAPPEARED at some point downtown.
Strangely enough, it seemed to disappear underneath someone’s HOUSE.

There is another that has more than one entrance and runs from about where the new bridge is.....I heard the original entrance is around there and there are also another entrance someone one this group posted around here

Pretty wild how that house just straddles the canal.

Is the implication that these are secret passageways? It seems like it's just drainage infrastructure.

By tunnel do you (apparently) mean drainage canal?

The pictures of that house straddling the canal are just bizarre. I can't imagine why they'd do that.

It's drainage, but probably built 150-200 years ago.

Fwiw, the starting point seems to be behind WAFB on France Street.

The government probably could not determine ownership to aquire via emminent domain. So they just built under it.

How does he get his lawnmower across to mow his front yard? Through the living room?

There's a huge underground room where devil worshipers go to sacrifice and smoke weed. I've seen the pentagrams at the entrance.

The canal disappears just before the Sigma Chi Frat house, goes underground, runs under the U High football field, then pops back up on the other side of field. It turns into Bayou Duplanier.

You can follow the whole Bayou on the BR Stormwater Master Plan map.

Lots of others too

Man some of those are impressive. As a kid I would think nothing of climbing in a pipe and shimmying 100 yards to the other side. Now I sweat and my heart rate increases just thinking about it.

Years ago, there was some type of article about that house over the canal. I would assume it was the advocate.

You know... I didn't know I had a fear of tunnels... But apparently I have a fear of tunnels.

Because that dark tunnel that splits gives me the damned heebie jeebies
