July 1 (UPI) -- A 21-year-old British woman rowed 4,366 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, becoming the youngest person to ever do so -- and earning three world records in the process.
Zara Lachlan set out from Lagos, Portugal, in her 24-foot boat and rowed 4,366 miles -- 3,794 nautical miles -- to Cayenne, French Guinea, a trip lasting 97 days, 10 hours and 20 minutes.

Lachlan earned three Guinness World Records in the process: first female to row across the Atlantic from Europe to South America (mainland to mainland), youngest person to row solo across the Atlantic from Europe to South America and the youngest person to row any ocean solo (female).
"I just really enjoyed the whole experience. I thought I would be a lot more scared than I was," she told Guinness World Records.
Lachlan said she rowed for at least 17 hours on every day of her journey, never sleeping for more than 90 minutes at a time.
"That doesn't work for everyone, but I'm young and I know that I can work off of that amount of sleep," she said.

I’m sure wind and currents helped tremendously.

That's what I was looking into
All of the articles I've found make it sound like she just left and started rowing and did so 17 hrs/day for 97 days which would be rather incredible.
But I am suspicious

Did someone taking a picture of her rowing not tip y'all off?

17 hours a day of rowing is pretty impressive.
I bet it’s also incredibly dark at night out there if the moon isn’t out. That would play some tricks on your mind out there

She got enough exercise for ten years doing that. Kudos to her, guarantee 100% of those tearing down her decision to do this and the legitimacy of it couldn’t do it for a day.

or hurt

The hardest section of the voyage by far was through the Canaries. It felt like all the wind and weather was against me. I was pushing hard for 21 hours a day and going just 11 miles. It was soul crushing.

Most things in life that are worthwhile are also difficult, but there are many difficult things that are not worthwhile.

Looks like she was 100% solo

Ms Lachlan said: "I leave from Portugal and I will row for three months to French Guiana, and I will not have a support vessel near me, so I carry all of my food and I sleep on the boat.
"If I come into an absolute disaster then I just have to hope that a nearby ship is going to come and save me.
"Being alone for three months is going to be really difficult - I have never done anything like it."

But why
quote:
She is due to set off in October and the journey will take three months. She said she hoped her plan would encourage people to do things they are scared of and promote sport for women.

Those were photos from her training days in Portugal.

I don't think any of us on this site get to determine what's worthwhile and what isn't for some random 21 year old girl on the other side of the globe. If it meant something to her, then good for her. I'm happy for her.

French Guiana, not Guinea
