Suspect in custody. Not many details.
Sad he was only 34.

That has to be the most dysfunctional small town department anywhere in the country. Their deputies are constantly in trouble or dying and their relatives are always being arrested as well. Then compound that with the prison shenanigans, I think it’s time LSP and the AG/FBI get involved.

I met him at mayors court for a ticket. Was the most professional and nice guy there outside the visiting judge and prosecutor. That place feeds on people coming through town to fund a completely unnecessary police force.

Yep. I have known him for a few years . My company provides technology services to the PD. Very hardworking and overall good guy. I just talked to him last week. This is terrible. RIP Captain.

I know yours was a professional relationship, but any chance you know if his dad might have worked at Hunt correctional center in the past? In a previous life I was on staff there and there was a Boutte who seemed to be a good guy. Very professional and conscientious. Just wondering if it is his son.

Not sure. I didn’t know him outside of work related stuff. I can say Devin was one of the most honest and dedicated officers I have ever met in my 27 years in the industry. He was a class act.

What is actually happening in this situation? This seems personal. Was an ambulance called by the police before going to check out what happened or by the killer before or after calling the police chief?
quote:
A St. Gabriel Police officer was found stabbed to death at a home Sunday morning and his accused killer was arrested after telling the town's police chief that something had happened, law officers said.
"I was notified by the assailant," Chief Kevin Ambeau said. "I sent an officer out. I came out and checked myself and I ended up finding him succumbed to his injuries."
Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi told WBRZ that the officer had been stabbed during an argument. Ambeau identified the officer as Capt. Devin Boutte, a 12-year veteran.

Definitely some sugar in the tank of the killer.

I have no idea of anything other than what’s been reported. I know it’s a message board and people are going to speculate. All I can say is I knew the guy professionally and he was a really good cop. He was working hard to make St Gabriel a better place.
