Some of these 5 stars commitment decisions are mind boggling, the 5bstar to tx tech, the 1 to USC who hasn't been relevant in 20 yrs, Miami, now Syracuse? Smh

It’s not really that crazy tbh. A lot of people don’t make a million bucks in 20 years. Give a kid a mil and if they produce, they can hit the portal for another huge payday.

With the house settlement, teams are working with the same pool of money now. It gives these “lesser” programs the option to offer a larger percentage of their funds to entice talent.

You think it’s crazy that kids would want to make millions of dollars playing football for two of the greatest football programs of all time in Southern Cal and Miami?
It makes great sense actually; Especially since Los Angeles and Miami are pretty fun places to live with good weather.

The dude at Texas Tech is supposed to get a 5.1 mill deal thanks to a hillionaire booster. I don't know about you, but I remember when Texas Tech was relevant with Leach. Because of the way college football is now with NIL, because of the way the new Big 12 is now (Arizona St won the damn thing year one and should have beaten Texas to reach the semifinals), and because of the coach currently at Tech, they have a legit chance to be really good. Texas Tech has a crazy portal class. The top 13 players are 4 stars and the top 6 guys are on the offensive and defensive lines.
USC would have been in the playoffs in Caleb Williams' first year there. They are buying a crazy arse class. This reminds me of TAMU years ago (what was it, 30 mill). Lincoln Riley was consistently in the final 4 playoffs at Oklahoma. Only Ohio St, Oregon, and Michigan will even come close to spending what they are willing to spend in that conference. Like LSU, their problem has been that awful defense. We'll see how they get that done. Riley has produced man a NFL WR.
Miami is another one who again can shine because of money and the conference and the way the playoffs are set up. They are projected 10-2 or better this year despite losing Ward and that WR group.
Syracuse is a money play and possibly a basketball play too. Either way, Syracuse did produce several great WRs and players in general that many were stolen right from them in the portal.

The money each athletic department has is still the same, it's just now able to be directly paid out to student athletes out of the AD budget.
Most programs still have to figure out where to get an extra $20 million dollars from to pay out. They're going to need more booster gifts, raise ticket prices, or cut programs or scholarships.
For example, LSU AD only had a $1.73 million surplus for 2024. That's ~$19 million more to be raised just to break even for 2025.

1 million in Los Angeles will buy a middle class home in an okay area. The cost of living is ridiculous compared to just about everywhere else in the US. You can get an upper middle class house in most parts of Louisiana and FL(excluding Miami) for 300k to 350k. Reality will set in for these kids and they'll be in the portal.

The difference is the money has to be spent. What you're saying could be completely correct but so is his perspective.
These schools, if they opted in, have no choice but to spend that money. It's TV money so they can't say they don't have it. Because that money has to be paid out, schools are essentially playing with monopoly money in terms of deal making.
As he said, schools like TT, Syracuse and Sacramento St. all have a pool of money they have to give to the players. How they allocate it is up to them. Bigger programs are more concerned with market and roster value than making the splash buy. TT chose to spend 5.1 over 3 years on Ojo, Syracuse 4.3 over 3 for Russell(according to reports that may or may not hold water). The majority of their rosters are "league minimum" type kids so they can afford splash buys in that sense. In their minds those splash buys are more valuable than overpaying kids on the roster just to fulfill their court mandated obligations. They have to spend the money on somebody. May as well get some publicity from it.

LOL - You think these kids are buying houses and paying for homeowners insurance and property taxes and all? Boosters are giving them sweetheart leases on homes and vehicles in addition to the other financial inducements.

The good news is, with everyone having a pool if money, it will be harder for mega-programs to stockpile all the talent.
While this seems like a negative at first, it actually plays in our favor. We will be able to get good players who fly under the radar to provide depth, due to our being the big dog in a state with underrated talent.
