Is anyone sick of how luxurious sporting events have become?

Going to an MLB game for the first time in forever today and it is insane how premium sports have become. I’ve been going to sports of all kind since I was maybe 4 years old. Minor league, major league, college.etc….

Maybe the last 15 years or so it’s seemed to really ramp up how luxurious and premium all the amenities are. On the face that’s great, but it’s made going to sports painfully expensive to the point where we just don’t want to spend the money on it anymore. I would not mind sports going back to much more basic services and food options that are just fine, but affordable.

What’s worse is they dress a lot of these restaurants up in the stadium and charge a fortune and the food still really isn’t that good.

Maybe this is a get off my lawn moment. But dammit it’s become a chore just to go to games and the price tag makes it a once a year thing even for my wife and I with good incomes and no kids.

I can’t imagine how having even 2 kids is affordable to take to a ballgame these days.

Really? You’re dinks and can only afford to go to one game a year? You can simply get a hot dog and peanuts/popcorn. Yeah it’s $20 but it’s $20 not $200.

Depends on what stadium/team you’re going to see. It’s a holiday weekend, but you can get into most stadiums for <$20. You don’t have to buy a $12 beer

For a family of 4 plus parking plus tickets?

ETA: also spending $20 on one person may work some places. For example I went to a hockey game a few months ago with free comp tickets. The smallest coke I could get was like $15 with a 10% discount. Insane.

MLB isn’t the sport you need to complain about. I understand NFL/NBA games being expensive.

There are 160 games to choose for MLB

Live sports experience has to keep up with the luxury of watching at home. The coolness of just being there is gone.

Social media and the ability to make sure everyone knows you went to the game and dressed like a pretentious douche has really amped up the luxury of attending events

I bought 3 tickets to the Bills vs Texans game and it was $900 for nose bleed seats. With food, parking and no beer it was right at $1000. That’s the last sporting event I have been to.

I’m going to watch the Yankees play the Astros and Rangers when they come to Texas and baseball tickets will be way less than the NFL tickets.

I was shocked how expensive it was and the shitty arse seats I had. I don’t care to ever go back to NRG. I had 50 yard line seats, row 9 right behind the Bills bench in Buffalo a couple years ago and paid $450 to $500 for 3 tickets. Same tickets in Houston would have been around $1600.

People are paying the prices they’re willing to pay. Sports continue to be able to charge more and get people to pay it. It’s the debt culture of our country funding it

Capital one arena for a playoff game. They only had souvenirs cups for the game.

And they have the audacity to ask for tips now too. And I didn’t even leave one!

Luxury is the first thing I think of when Eagles fans are throwing obscenities and punches at opposing fans, deep in the nose bleed section of the stands.

I disagree

outside of LA/NY you can find very cheap tickets to MLB games. i pay under $25 to sit in the lower bowl at Pels games all the time. Sure, if you and your family can't go 2 / 2.5 hours without a full meal it can get pricey. No shot it's so expensive that someone with a good income can only go once a year. Also, buy a third party parking pass near the stadium online for a fraction of what it costs to park at arenas / stadiums and deal with less traffic.

Believe it or not, going to a game at Dodgers Stadium was usually a good deal. They often came up with $10 tickets for the mid level deck behind home plate( it was a great view). A beer and a Dodger Dog was $5-10. The setting and the weather was always great. The only drag was the traffic on Sunset Blvd. Getting out and going home…

You are not a family of four, you are dinks with good income according to you.

I have a family of four, we can go to Nuggets, Avalanche, or Rockies games for $150 in tickets and another $100 or so in food, if we choose to eat there.

So it is $30 a person instead of $20, eat before or after the game.

The problem is the juice isn't worth the squeeze. What are you getting in return for that 250 bucks? Watching a completely meaningless regular season game in a sterile atmosphere. They've killed the experience and charged you to do so.

For an actual "big game" you're looking at around a grand (maybe more) for a family to attend.

They have been doing this for years now at nearly every arena and I just launder hit no! You did nothing but hand me a pre made burger or hotdog and filled a cup, and you want a tip? Get out of here. They need to pay the concessions workers more and stop nickel and dimming fans. You already charge enough for the tickets.

This. You can get a better view and better food from home and not have people standing up in front of you or squeezing past you in the middle of an inning.
