My theory is that Willie was promised job security if he went along with the tank last year.
He now has a Byron Scott level leash around his neck and Borrego is the preferred HC in waiting.
I have nothing to base this off other than it being the only thing that makes logical sense.
The other scenarios are just fricking depressing.

Seriously, literally no one has praised Gayle as a top innovative young (wat?!!!) owner. The last time that Gayle was praising by most of this board was when she hired Griff, and he got her to invest in the practice facility, cafeteria, etc. That's also about when she bought the Squadron.
No one here, and I mean no one, has claimed that Gayle is anything like a "top innovative young owner" in years.
