Seems like Scott W is only focusing on raising more and more revenue. He has TAF going around trying to get donors to endow more scholarships to offset costs to athletic department. When will he actually cut real costs like several other ADs have done? No way LSU can solve the new world P&L issue by only looking at increasing revenue.

A Louisiana university asking Louisiana fans to be ok with cuts here and there?

Can you list all the ways that these several other ADs are cutting costs? Genuinely curious.

That's kind of his job.

Like who? In today's world of college athletics, there's no competitive athletic department cutting costs. The opposite, in fact. If you want to compete at a high level in collegiate athletics in 2025 (and beyond), you have to invest in top coaches and players. That's the job. Invest and grow revenue. It's the only way to survice at the top now.

I assume he's talking about cutting AD staff but I'd also like to know who has done this and to what extent.

Easy make each sport its own P&L center that will weed out a lot of the non revs(WBB lost $8M, Gymnastics, Golf, etc). You make money or break even, otherwise it’s on you as the coach/team to win and create a positive revenue source. That’s running a true business but then politics, favors and title 9 get involved and it screws up things.

Give us some examples of P4 programs doing this and tell us what they are doing.

Hate to tell you, but you could also kiss baseball good bye as well with this mindset (depending on the year)

How does LSU benchmark against same archetype athletics dept?

Facilities & Ops
Coaches salaries
Team travel
Game day experience
Recruiting
Technology
Marketing, branding. Licensing
Administration

If you were to take a guess, does LSU benchmark at, above or below equivalent Athletic Depts in terms of per athlete costs?

My sense is there is fat. How many asst coach analysts and paper title sports administration roles are hanging off of the rafters in bldg?

I hear what you're saying, but from what I've heard here and throughout other media, is that only Football and maybe Men's basketball make a profit. For LSU, I'm not even sure if Men's BB does turn a profit, but most other schools it does.
There is a way to divy up the money using a percentage. The athletic dept. and all coaches would have to basically have several meetings to figure that out.
Also, from what I understand, is that if a donor donates to a specific sport, then that is theirs to keep. Not 100% on this though.

Talking about P&L without tangible suggestions or solutions.

Do you work for my company?

...

It wouldn't change the fact he's chasing more revenue. He could free up 5 million tomorrow and he would probably still push for patches on jerseys and such.

Baseball usually makes a little money every year, should help you keep the sense of urgency to win and win often!

It does. Most of revenue comes from TV deals which are fairly lucrative for men's basketball and shared amongst the conference. Could they invest more in the product and get money from ticket sales as well? Maybe so but they can do nothing and stay profitable which seems to be the plan.

The big picture is to keep raking in money with football and then invest as little as possible in other sports. WBB and baseball will continue to get funds because they are a relatively good investment (don't lose as much as they would without investing in the product).

I do think it's possible, even likely that the basketball stadium project funding gets redirected. Auburn built their new gym at the perfect time to attract crowds and $$$ before the NIL era. Much harder to justify spending the money now. So I suspect that men's BB will remain on the back burner.
