I watched this a few months ago. It holds up and is very dark/adult. They don't make kids movies like this anymore, that's for sure.

I remember my dad taking me to see Batman 89, Ghostbusters 2, TMNT, and a few others when they came out in theaters. I was born in '85

TNMT was my first movie theater experience (consciously, I believe. I think my parents took me as a newborn to ROTJ in 83 )

Was one of the coolest things I ever saw as a kid. It is incredibly early 90's and raw. The puppeteering is top notch. What they were able to do in those suits is pretty amazing.

The second one got neutered because parental groups complained about how dark the first one was.

That's why you see them fighting with anything BUT their actual weapons in most scenes.

Then those same groups still complained because Michelangelo used a yo-yo as a weapon instead.

And then the third one basically just had walking toys in the movie.

Even as a kid I never understood why they cartooned up the costumes for III.

Eventually we’ll get an R rated turtles movie. All the 35 to 50 years olds will be pumped.

They have that with the graphic novel "The Last Ronin" which follows one ninja turtle. It's pretty awesome. I think they are trying to make a video game of it. Pretty dark.

I was in retail when the toy craze hit. We'd get the big cases of action figures and open them up and see one of each turtle, and a dozen each of Bebop and Rock Steady. We knew we were gonna catch shite from each parent that came in seeing our ad saying we sold Ninja Turtles.

Same here. Watched it with my son and expected it to be just awful. It was surprisingly as good as I remembered it being. One of the best TMNT things ever done.

Fun fact: It had no major studio backing and was the highest grossing independent film until Blairwitch Project dethroned it.

I got my nephew the fancy bound version of that series a few years ago. He read it once and then my brother stole it from him and added it to his own collection.

Still one of the greatest villain entrances of all time.
