BMW advice please

Was not sure where to post this.
I have never owned a BMW before, but just am falling in love with the 2025 X3. It is at the top of my price range and if I am being honest, an X1 would probably be more advisable since the family minivan has 175k on it.
But everywhere i look I have people and comments warning about BMW’s.
I have sat in one as recently as this past
week. The salesman was saying they have partnered with Toyota in collaboration with new engine specs.
Anyone have some advice?

Don't make an emotional decision it comes to buying a depreciating asset.

Look at a 2022 or 2023 X3 instead. Or a 2021/2022 X5. The X5 is a major jump up from the X3.
I’m a fan of BMW. They drive better than their competitors (Audi, Mercedes, Lexus) IMO. Despite their reputation for contantly having issues, I never had a major problem with any of the ones I’ve owned. But I recognize that’s anecdotal evidence - just giving my experience.

I loved my BMW.
Then I hated my BMW.
Some things must be learned on your own in life. Goodluck.
ETA: Now I miss my 530i, but not enough to ever get another.

My assistant drives an X7 and hasn't had any problems.

We own 2
'14 Z4 [wife's] - 97k miles
'18 5 series [mine] 57k miles
Both have been fine - routine maintenance to date except for a switch that operates the convertible top on the Z4

If you really want it, lease it. If something goes south, it ain’t yours.
That being said, an X1 is a lot smaller than a minivan.

Looking at a new 330i as well.

BMW is fine if you buy it brand new and sell it before the warranty expires.

Anytime a BMW cuts me off in traffic. I don’t get upset because he usually is still going the same speed and pulling away, some.

I can't speak to the 3, but wife and daughter have the 2025 X5. Previously had a 2023 540ix, and a 2019 X5M 4.4.
No issues beyond routine maintenance on the cars, but I'd stay with thr inline-6.
And stay away from the BMW dealership in D'Iberville.

I've test drove both. The x1 didn't seem as well built. It was if they added the X1 for people who normally can't afford a Beamer

BMW’s are nice. But if you care about reliability or not paying a subscription for your cars features then don’t get it.

My husband has owned several BMWs from coupes to sedans to SUVs. No real problems but he gets rid of them before the warranty runs out and rarely keeps one after the free annual maintenance is up.

I owned a 328i years ago. Very nice car and fun to drive. Got a good deal buying it used with less than 10,000 miles. Maintenance costs will drive you crazy. Routine stuff is outrageous if you go through dealer. Loved the car but hated the maintenance. I would never own another unless I found a shade tree mechanic to service.

I just saw a brand new X1 on the highway today and it was much larger than I expected.

I'm a student of human nature. I observe things. We have a local auto conglomerate. The owner could drive virtually anything, within reason - certainly higher trim BMW or MB sedans, coupes or SUVs. He drives an X5.

This is probably me. It seems to me the X1 and X3 are running the same price tags as toyota Ravs and toyota highlanders

This. The X3 is definitely roomier but sitting in the X1 was no problem at all. I sat in the back and it felt the same as the front for my legs (I am 6’0). The X3 is bigger but not noticeably in the inside.
I think the routine maintenance costs is what i hear keeps giving me pause, out my current volkswagen is 12 years old and i pay over $100 for synthetic oil changes anyway
