Why is it so important to rich people that they signal their wealth to other people?

Jeff Bezos being the most extreme, farcical example. That wedding was absolutely obscene.
But your neighbors do it every day. Houses, cars, where they shop for groceries, their clothes, where they send their kids to school, etc.
And no, I’m not poor. I like nice things but I don’t need them. My possessions don’t validate me. Being accepted by certain groups is not on my agenda.

I find most people that live around me that have the nicest material things are in debt up to their eyeballs.

Bezos’ wedding isn’t a possession

see that more with new money, most folks who've had money for a while are relatively low key

That’s because you live in a shitty neighborhood

A lot of the people you are describing prob don’t save jack shite. Looking rich is smoke and mirrors for most people. Real wealthy people have robust investments and savings accounts and drive 10 year old Toyotas

Odds are many are in debt or paycheck to paycheck, just in a different tax bracket than typical poor people.

How would we know about it if the media didn't feed the celebrity obsessed...

The obese circus clown in the WH has his name on the side of his plane. Bezos has nothing on his arrogance.

Don't hate me just because I drive a 2006 Ford Ranger.

Many very wealthy people aren’t like this at all.

I doubt they see it the same way as you.
There is probably someone out there wondering why you think your shite doesn't stink because you eat prime beef. It's all relative. Honestly it's not worth thinking about.

I think texas people are worse... mcmansions, 100k vehicles, debt up to their eyeballs, all for show... they truly care about what other people think of them, and it's kind of pathetic if you ask me
I'm 39, I live comfortably in a 2500sqft house... I have an 8yr old ford truck and my ol lady drives a corolla (she loves her car)... we have 2 boats (17ft bay and 10ft john), no kids yet, and 1 dog... I can retire at 55 and she can retire at 50, yet we vacation 4 times/year... we don't social media, and we don't keep up with the jonses... cuz a lot of them will be working well past 55... we live modest, so our golden years can be as great as possible
My advice.... stay under the radar and when it matters, make the life as great as possible... currently saving to buy a camp on the water, and some land in west feliciana
Showing wealth is for losers who peacock and enjoy attention... I want to enjoy the ride of life, stay low key and have something to pass down

It's a validation addiction. Like a woman with big fake boobs who wears low cut too tight shirts. We can all see how big they are in regular clothes, why is it necessary to have them hanging out around people that you don't have sex with? For the attention.
