We burned 40+ million in salary relief and two strong 2026 firsts in a couple of weeks

I’m sorry, but this is what happens when you hire a 60+ year old GM that has no right to the position. I love Fears, I really do. But make no mistake, we have crippled our future and will be talking about this for years.

We had the 2nd most assets in the league a few years ago. Look where we were this season. Relax and see how these players pan out before melting.

Wait, that’s the defense?

It’s simply a fact that assets and flexibility, just for the sake of assets and flexibility, don’t guarantee anything. If they love these players and fully believe they are gonna be stars, I have no problem with making moves to get them.

These players aren’t going to develop in a vacuum. The same management that made this awful trade will be making all the other decisions about this team. Their obvious incompetence isn’t going to be limited to one draft day decision.

OKC begs to differ…..

It’s the second one already in his short tenure. The pacers pick next year will be higher.

It’s a single first round draft pick next year guys. Jesus take a breath. The nba draft is the biggest crapshoot in sports and y’all act like giving away a single pick dooms the franchise forever

No they don’t. They wouldn’t guarantee success. It’s still a crap shoot. They just have weighted dice in the form of a great GM. If we are so down on the GM for the moves made today, what makes you think he would maximize future assets like OKC did?

The 1st thing Joe did was trade next year’s assets for a late lottery pick. He moved up from 23 to 13 lol. Our team is almost Centerless, the Duke guy was there!

Did Yves Missi disappeared or something?

The franchise is already doomed, based on the repeated failures to build around potential superstar talents, culminating in the hiring of a POBO that has been past his prime and/or a failure for almost 20 years. Moves like the trade tonight are just the nail in the coffin that they won’t luck into another chance at a top 3 lottery pick.

y'all REALLY sleeping on Missi...

Who gives a shite. We had a “war chest” a few years ago and where is that now??
I’m glad we at least had a pulse to shoot our shot. Dumars may be a dumb arse in hindsight but at least he’s taking a chance

I think some guys see teams like Presti in OKC stockpiling picks, and continually trading back to acquire more and more assets, happening to win a championship, and they now think that the sure fire way of becoming a great team...
and look, it worked for OKC... great, good on them... but that's not the ONLY way, not to mention, during all that time of acquiring all that shite, they fricking SUCKED... and it took YEARS, and a lot of luck that their guys in the draft actually panned out, for them to get to where they are, but it was by no means a lock that their approach was definitely going to work...
if those picks like Jalen Williams, or Chet, didn't work out, they'd still be arse, but they'd be arse with a lot of assets... wonder if they'd still be the envy of the casuals here on Pels Talk if that was the case?
at some point, like you said, you have to shoot your shot, even if it's unconventional in its approach and not the "right" way, you gotta try something different and hope for the best, b/c just amassing picks and swaps, just to have them, don't do us much good

So if the pels or bucks win the lottery and get the top pick next yr, you will be fine with that?

of course it would suck, but conversely, if neither one of those picks are in the top 5 and we are only like 2 or 3 spots behind ATL in next year's draft as a result, would that be ok?

Fears has a much higher ceiling than Maluach does and centers get run off the court in crunch time a lot now. We drafted Fears to touch the ball more than anyone on the team, including Zion because Fears will be the point guard.

Not doomed forever, but this is Dumars thought process. He “thought” this was a good deal.
We’re not doomed forever but we are with he and owner Gayle. Move the team!
