After 10 years of off/on working on it, I’m calling it done. This kit fought me all the way to the end and I considered giving up more than once. All walkways, both masts, and a LOT of other stuff was scratch built using plastic sheet. I had to go by Dad’s cruise book and period photos to backdate her to 1970. Good grief. Still more I could have done, but I’m calling it. If I feel like it, I may do more another time. Im satisfied with it. Enjoy.
For Dad.

Crappy kit and I did not feel like filling each one and re-drilling for correct padeye size

Wow dude.
Ten years and it was totally worth it!
Your father is going to lose his shite when he gets this.
Well done.

Very nice Spaceman. The time you spent was well worth the end result.
The "Phrog" helicopter has a special place in my heart. We loved it and hated it at the same time, but it got the job done.

I floated on the USS Okinawa (LPH-3) during Desert Storm. The Broke-inawa was a sister ship to the New Orleans in the Iwo Jima class.
You don't have near enough rust on that gator freighter.

OP: Good job on the labor of love.
A bad model kit haunts you throughout the entire experience.

Is this an Iron Shipwrights kit? Amazing work to get it done, I have a few ISW kits I picked up on eBay years ago, I've gotten as far as opening the boxes before putting them back to the bottom of the stash.

Yes. That's why it took me 10 years. I'd get pissed and put it up for a while. After my skill level went up, I'd bring it back out, get pissed again. Over and over. The worst kit I've ever dealt with. Had to rebuild so much

Yeah, ISW kits were of an acceptable quality 30 years ago before the explosion in 1/350 plastic kits but the molds are tired and now they are only really good for the basic shape of the hull and maybe the superstructure.
Again, bravo on completing the build.

Looks great. How long is it?

Very cool! And the detail of these never fully comes across in photos. I love seeing builds like this in person and just taking time to look at everything and take it in. Great work!
