There has to be another trade in the works b/c this one makes no sense.

We need shooters around Zion and we just gave up our most consistent shooter and by far our best shooting big man who I was excited to see as a Pel this year. I love getting Bey but Poole doesn't fit this roster at all. If Dumars wanted to change the culture he just really screwed up trading the two best culture guys on the team. We get only $5-$7 million after swapping the contracts which is enough to fill the bottom 3 of the roster but we still need a PG and C. Dumars seems enamored with Maluach I just hope it doesn't turn into another Darko Millicic’.

What makes you say Olynyk is a "culture guy"? I've heard nothing to that effect about him.

Everywhere he’s been in his career he’s been a fan favorite and last year when he came to the Pels you could tell the guys liked him. Now we have no big that can shoot besides Karlo and he isn't a great one himself if he isn’t shooting from the corner. It’s Poole that I can’t comprehend since he’s average to below average shooting from 3.

CJ has been here how long? And the culture is still the same...
I'm not saying its CJ's fault, but if one of his roles is to help shape culture, then its not working.
He's going to walk at the end of this season and Dumars traded him for a 26 year old coming off a bounce back season. If Poole can repeat or improve, we can flip him for a decent haul next year as an expiring.

Poole shot better than CJ last year. For what it’s worth.

I'm going to have to disagree with you. I follow the Pels very closely and I see no reason to believe he is a "culture guy." He is a veteran. He is old. He's Canadian. Canadians are "nice."
I don't see him setting any kind of "culture" that our young guys will want to follow. He doesn't walk into a room and demand respect. Sorry.

CJ has not had any effect on Zion or on our playoff chances. The two things he was brought in for. I have no problem shipping him off.

This is sadly true. He tried! "Some men you just can't reach!"

by a half a percent, and it was CJ's worst shooting season from 3 in his 12 year career, while it was Poole's best of his 6 year career.

Poole was quietly good on a bad team last year after a bad start the year before.
38% from 3, 51% from the floor.

One key thing here is CJ has exited his prime and Poole might be entering his. Trade is mostly pointless but Poole does have higher upside currently. And he’s a good bit more athletic. He technically can create his own shot better than CJ in a high intensity game. Now he might miss that shot, but he sure can create it.

Kelly Olynyk is the guy on yout roster when you know playoffs are questionable at best. Outside of one year with Miami

Turnovers machine? However he played a 80% of the games, pretty rare for pels.

so you are saying one is on the decline and one is on the incline?
the similarities between CJ and Poole, by the numbers, is pretty striking... honestly, for all intent and purpose, they are kind of the same player... not true combo guards, who can do just enough at each position, but master of either... streaky shooters, who when are hot, are scorching.... when cold, they are ice cold... pretty much a wash in terms of rebounds, assists, TOs, steals, etc...
I don't think Poole makes us any better or worse then we were before the trade, but I do know that he at least has time to get better, whereas CJ's better days are way behind him

I’m just glad Dumars is shaking it up. Griff would’ve held CJ until the trade deadline and then given him up for Taj Gibson and a 2nd round pick

exactly this....
and to be CLEAR, this trade doesn't make us a contender... but we have more to build with now with Poole and Bey than we would have with McCollum and Olynyk... if you can't agree with that, you aren't being intellectually honest

Culture has been gone since Jrue left imo

Exactly. Bey is a good player who has more value than Olynyk and Poole has more upside value than CJ by a lot. Especially given he has one more year. That way you can take your time finding a way to flip him either at deadline this year, summer or deadline next year. That flexibility is nice and gives you a lot more optionality. And 40 gives you more ammo in this draft if you need to jump a few spots from 23 or if you want a flyer on a second round player

I love Bey’s intensity. We missed that last year after Naji went to Dallas. Just hope he can find his shot again. Hes going to have plenty of space to do so.
FWIW, a lot of the young Washington players are posting about Poole on their story. They seem heartbroken he’s leaving. Bilal even posted this on his story.

CJ made too much money and is too old.
