There was a guy I worked with years ago whose wife was really into hot air balloons. They’d spend their weekends with her going up in hot air balloons while he would basically chase her in their car to pick her up when she landed. Seemed like a rather odd way to spend the weekend to me.

No.

And after seeing that I never will.

Twice. I've never felt safe.

Nope.

Being in the air scares me. I fly semi-frequently, and I've gotten over it, but I don't like it. Something feels off about the entire thing. Air travel is a miracle and amazes me, and I've read so much about the physics, why it's safe, etc., but something in my dumb primate brain can't accept it as routine.

A hot air balloon is not even a thought. No way.

Yes and it was one of the coolest experiences of my life and I never felt unsafe for a second.

I was kinda scared to do it but once up there it was awesome.

Yupp, many times. Girl I dated for a few years Dad was really into hot air balloon racing, I mostly drove the team chase truck, but rode quite a few times as well.

When you put it like that, definitely. Any chance there was also a “lifestyle” component to it. Yes, I mean swinging. I’ve been to a few of the hot air balloon festivals and there seems to be some odd undercurrent to the regulars/riders.

That video looked exciting except for the landing part.

Pass on that or helicopter travel* too.

Yes and I have witnessed a crash like that as well. In early 1990's (possibly 1989) They had the hot air balloon festival in BR at the fair grounds.

I was watching the balloons through my sunroof while sitting in traffic. All of a sudden one of the balloons caught fire and collapsed similar to the video. When it started its descent it looked like it was right above my car. It hit the ground about 200 yards away from me. Unfortunately, the pilot died on impact.

That’s crazy. I wonder if the one who jumped was a survivor, doubtful but who knows

You’re telling me 21 motherfrickers can fit in a hot air ballon buggy? That’s wild.
