Does the animation look weird to anyone else? I cant tell if its bad or if I’m just so used to the old animation style

Seems to be following all the modern adult animation while still trying to do the old style it definitely seems off

I mean is it that much cheaper to run with this kind of animation? Thats the only thing i can think of because the old animation style was so much better.. it just looks so unnatural and awkward.

Or are they trying to appeal to new viewers as opposed to existing fans? I cant imagine any serious fans of the show thinking that this looks good

Hank sounds off too. Doesn't sound as tired or annoyed as he did in the original.

The original run was hand drawn, at least most of it. This is certainly computer generated/digital. There's very little hand drawn animation done anymore sadly.

Peggy’s suicide joke was off-brand for her. My wife and I were like WTF.

Sounds like they’re using a computer/AI to do the voices

They do not hire good animators now a days and have outsourced it to A.I art.

Yeah man i thought the same thing.. was definitely out of left field.. ill never forgive Hulu if they ruin this… it does seem like its setting up for a disappointment… they usually showcase their best stuff in a teaser and if that was some of their best material then my God

100% my first thought. Did not think Peggy would say anything like that.

I could see Peggy correcting everything the guide said. I also don't think Dale would go in a Presidential Library with all the surveillance.........unless Octavio is running a covert op for Rusty Shackelford.

Let's not forget Hank lost respect for W over his handshake.

To be fair it was pretty ambiguous about who he voted for. Even so he could have easily just voted Gore in 2000 and Bush in 2004

Hank didn't vote for Gore, I can break this down. Let's say Hank first voted in 80.

80, Reagan, country was struggling and we know Cotton hated Carter and young Hank would take that into consideration.

84, Reagan cause why wouldn't he?

88, Bush was a Texan, Hank ain't voting Massachusetts over Texas.(He ignored Bush being a Massachusetts native)

92, Hank voted Perot, we know he hates Bubba (he literally cringed over a Clinton sign in Arkansas). Hank respects the populist, down home ways of Ross and would respect a man with charts.

96, voted Dole. Dole was a decorated war hero who lost use of his arm. Makes Hank think of Cotton.

00, voted for The Texans but likely didn't have any major issues with Gore.

04, see 88.

08, see 96 minus a permanent injury.

12, here's where things get tricky. Hank won't vote Obama, however like me he wouldn't vote for a Mormon and wouldn't trust someone who is Governor in Massachusetts (that's 3 times now) and moved to Utah. Hank wrote someone in, Hank is one person who doesn't care if his vote gets wasted as long as he voted.

16, he'd be in Saudi Arabia by now but he wouldn't like Trump. He hates Hilary though and I think he'd eventually buy into the MAGA movement.
"MAGA, this must be done...I'll tell you what."

20, Hank is disallusioned by the nanny state during COVID and refuses to vote for either. In a time of soul searching he chooses to write in Roger Staubach.

24, he has forgiven Trump and would never vote for a women............other than Peggy.

Watch the South Park documentary from a decade ago to see how animation changed. Also, I don’t know what animation group they used before, but they probably went with someone new. Additionally, they probably got less money from 20th Television with more having to go to talent and less going “below the line”.

Peggy has been in the Middle East for 10 years not being able to drive and having to cover herself in public. She was outspoken before that, so assume being repressed for a decade changed her optimism.

Mike Judge is not stupid.

In fairness, they didn't have good animators back in the day, either. When things still were hand drawn with ink & paint, only every so often would the credited artists do certain key frames. The artists here in the States would only do 10-20% of the cells. The rest were sent overseas (typically to Asia) where house artists would do them. Those animators were known as "inbetweeners".

All that said, the move from 1080 to 4K would also explain a lot.
