Its only illegal if you get paid for not doing anything (Oklahoma). What a bunch of dumbasses.

Looks like Louisiana in true political fashion has figured out a slimy way to pay their players "over the table." NCAA should be made aware of this.

Bama should be worrying about their own problems with the NCAA.

Bunch of idiots...it's just a job...everyone knows someone that could get them a job...that's all they're doing, "if you come here we can get you a part time job if you want it"

It's just that at Bama...going to strip clubs, getting new rims, and car stereos is the norm.
A player..working?
It simply isn't done.

Funny thing is that the guy has a quote from Bear Bryant, the most aggressive recruiter and the first coach who made a living out of paying/bribing players to come to Bama and the reason the NCAA came up with the regulations that they have.

all college football programs have job programs. When I played I worked for Richard Gill with Shack, awesome summer.

They think every single college football program doesn't set up legal part time jobs for players ?
How the hell else are they gonna pay for all those tats?
There are more than a dozen employers in the Tuscaloosa area that do the same.
Gumps.
Not to mention The exclusive Colombian Cartel Internship Program that Jimmy Johns received.

But seriously, this is silly. It's a job.

everybody cheats, everybody. not saying this was cheating. but you see more poor kids go to college with no $ and then end up driving an escalade with 24's on it. i remember something about julio jones leaving practice with one.

The funniest thing about this thread is that if Saban had offered RR an "internship" somewhere - you guys would be pitching a fit and calling for an NCAA investigation yourselves.
Posted on 1/28/09 at 12:06 pm to lctiger
The article specifically says that no one talked to RR about the internship.. only that the job existed. It existed before RR, and will exist after his playing days are over.
Also, dmitch said on this forum that there was NO TALK of an intership for Reuben on that trip.
Does anyone here post on that BS board? Please tell them this. I couldn't bring myself to post on some stupid gump board, mainly because I think that their little "new recruit" vs "ALL SEC" vs "5 star prospect" crap seems EXTREMELY lame

Julio Jones drives an old white Chevy Tahoe that looks beat up.

Wow so according to them, student athletes aren't allowed to get jobs that set them up to pursue their desired career paths.

i'll bet both of my testicles that saban has offered him something, maybe not an internship, but something of great value. same with miami and oklahoma.

Some might but I wouldnt. It's just like when we had Telfort here and we showed him how he could take all of his core classes for pharmacy school. Take a recruit's interest and show him the same opportunities that any student in that major or college would have.
If he's interested in politics then there are internships available. It's nothing secret or mysterious or illegal about it. It's like momma said. The internship is there, anyone could apply.

No, the funniest thing is that you are willing to follow some reporter on a wild goose chase, and think that ANYONE offered Reuben an internship on this trip. The article specifically says that no offer was made, but tried to draw some unfounded conclusions by just stating that the position existed. Be careful who you follow and how far ahead you are willing to "jump".
Rueben's own brother has said that there were no offers made to Rueben for any internships on this trip.
