Backlash from business owners after proposed Hammond ordinance may ban 18-to-20-year-olds from bars

quote:

HAMMOND - A proposed ordinance in Hammond is sparking debate as it could keep 18-to-20-year-olds out of local bars, even if they're not drinking.

Dan Lambert, who owns Cate Street Pub in Hammond, says he's pushing back after Councilman Kip Andrews proposed an ordinance that would ban 18-to-20-year-olds from entering bars.

“Just because you don't like to drink doesn't mean that everybody that comes in here, that's what they're doing. They look at it like, 'oh, they must be drunk,' it's just not the case, not in this day and age," Lambert said. "We didn't check with the police department, with the bars to find out if this was a problem, just went straight to an ordinance. Just full nuclear, let's ban everybody from bars."

quote:

”You're going to school to get an education, not to drink and hang out and party," Andrews said.

The only skill Alabama taught me is how to be a functional alcoholic for a few years after graduation.

8 AM’s are actually about teaching you how to push through a hangover, not calculus.

I did that. I never had enough money to drink like I wanted to.

For me, it was absolutely “Why not both?”

If it had ever begun to affect my grades, I would have backed off.

I had a dual major while at SLU, one of them was I and I (intoxication and intercourse).

I went to school at SLU. When the state ruled that you had to be 21 to drink, the Hammond bars didn’t give a shite for several months.

One of my proudest moments was when I woke up still drunk and went and took a statistics test. Aced that test and ran down the hall to the restroom and threw up.

Let me guess, Ole Kip is a Republican?

It would be on point.

Google his photo and guess again.

Have a big problem with this. 18 year olds can lose their lives in the military but can’t go to a bar to try to pick up girls?

Also it just makes getting a fake ID even more important for those wanting to go to the bar

Even

IF?

So we're just straight up admitting underage people are drinking in bars in the first line of the article?

Is that the same thing as the old Cate Street Station from WAY back in the day?
