The Music Listener thread got me thinking.

I don’t think most can say they still have the same Favorite Band as they did when they were super young.

Are they still a Band?
Are they still making Great Music?
Are they still Touring?

I’ve been an Unwavering fan of The Cure since I was probably 12 years old or younger. I love a lot of other bands but they are #1

They have never let me Down

Fav lineup 1987

I picked up a guitar for the first time seriously (I took a couple lessons when I was about 8ish) when I was 13 because I heard the Black Crowes' "She Talks to Angels."

For a good long while they were my favorite as I tried to cop all the Rich/Jeff/Marc licks on those first two albums.

But, while I still appreciate/dig them, they are no longer my favorite.

Probably J. Geils then. I rarely listen to them now.

Was listening to the Beatles and Zeppelin when I was 13 or younger, still listen to them, still love them. Beatles are tops, Zeppelin is in my top 10.

Bachman Turner Overdrive
Jethro Tull
Electric Light Orchestra

I still listen to BTO and JT and have been on a BTO kick lately since they are playing here later this year. But I've listened to some of their recent live shows and they are pretty lame and Frank Turner isn't with them anymore so I'm not wasting my money.

ELO I listen to sometimes, mostly the Roy Wood years which is their best stuff IMO.

I can't remember my favorite band at 13. Maybe AC/DC? At 14 in 1984, early 85 it became the Cure. Still is.

When I was super young (5 or 6) I could sing all of the snippets of Beach Boys songs that were played on the Time Life Records commercial and have been a big fan ever since.

I first heard Alabama when I was around 9 or 10 and they have been one of my favorites ever since.

The Hollies
Their stuff still kicks for me
My daughters both know this and there's a very good chance that Long Cool Woman might get played at my funeral.

at 13 I was obsessed with the Beatles. I have broader interests now but they will always be the GOAT

Probably Guns n Roses or Metallica at that time (90-91). I know Appetite For Destruction was the first album I bought on my own when I was 8. I mowed lawns all day and rode my bike for miles to buy it at a drug store. I was listening to that album a while back and was thinking how crazy it was that I was listening to that stuff at 8, but most of the lyrics went over my head.

Honestly, the entire scenario of an 8 year old pushing a mower for money all day, and then doing a solo 10 mile round trip on his bike to buy an album about booze and heroin sounds out of place now, but was a normal Saturday in 1987.

that’s a great story!
We all probably have similar stories from back in 1987.
1987 was an unforgettable year.

And all these years later, is Guns N Roses still your favorite band?

Probably Boston, by default. I think that was the first "rock" album we had. (older brother) I played that album so much on a cheap GE all in one stereo into my Pioneer headphones. Much earlier, I really dug Wings ( and still do)

I wouldn't say either is now my "favorite" BUT I just bought 'Wingspan' this week.

No. I still like them, but like most people, I went through several phases as a teenager. When I was 14 the girl I had a crush on was into the Doors, so I started listening to them, initially to seem cool to the girl, but really got into them for a while. And around that time my dad gave me the White Album for Christmas which led to an obsession with the Beatles.

Around 15 I saw a poster of Sid Viscous in an older buddy's room, which immediately had my attention and said friend introduced me to the Sex Pistols, which quickly took me into punk (which has been my primary musical interest since) and Minor Threat....which led to Operation Ivy... and then the Specials (which forked into reggae and dub)... and on and on and on...

I wouldn't even attempt to name a favorite band now. There are so many that I love and would probably tell you were my favorite if you asked while I was listening to them.

Korn
System of a Down
Mudvayne

And no. But I’ll still thrown on World so Cold or Freak on a Leash just for the quick nostalgia hit.

At 11 in '83 it was Def Leppard and remaind them until GnR hit in '87. Now, neither of them are my favorite band. Still like and listen to them, tho.

I was 13 in 1981.

My favorite bands were KISS and Foreigner.

I still like Foreigner, but not KISS as
much.

Neither are anywhere close to my favorites.
