Just watched the first episode but it's entertaining and he definitely is getting his cool submarine fix.

I couldn't think of anything else.. He wanted to watch the Titanic sub doc and I said Nope but all I could think about was red October and das boot.

Any other good sub movie recs for a 10yo ?

Not a movie but I was into submarines and loved the PC game 688 hunter/killer when I was that age

It’s on Steam and still holds up

What's the one where they are trying to stay silent and the enemy keeps dropping depth charges and every time they think they're in the clear the destroyer comes back and drops more.

Isn’t that Das Boot? Been a long time since I’ve seen it, but what you describe I remember from a movie. Maybe be getting movies confused.

shite now I’m curious

Update: I asked Grok and this was its response (it does appear Das Boot was what I was thinking)

You’re likely referring to The Enemy Below (1957), a classic World War II submarine film. It depicts a tense cat-and-mouse game between an American destroyer, commanded by Captain Murrell (Robert Mitchum), and a German U-boat, led by Kapitän von Stolberg (Curd Jürgens). The U-boat crew must remain silent to avoid detection while the destroyer repeatedly drops depth charges, creating nerve-wracking moments where the submarine hopes to escape, only for the destroyer to return with more attacks. The film’s suspense hinges on this relentless pursuit, with both sides trying to outsmart each other. Another possibility could be Das Boot (1981), a German film that also features intense silent running and depth charge sequences, though its focus is more on the U-boat crew’s perspective. If you had a specific scene or detail in mind, let me know to narrow it down further!

An under-rated comedy. I enjoy it and highly recommend it.

And the answer someone else's question upthread might be
Run Silent, Run Deep.

Run Silent, Run Deep with Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster.

The Enemy Below with Robert Mitchum and Curt Jergens.

Take a men's trip over to Mobile and visit the USS Alabama and the sub USS Drum. You'll enjoy the claustrophobic nature of a World War II sub.

Hunter Killer is throwaway fun. Also, he might like Greyhound. My kid loved subs too, and ended up running around saying, "Dickie, Dickie, Greyhound," for months.

The current Mission Impossible comes to mind

The Hunt for Red October is pretty great

The Abyss mostly qualifies

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (series) is on MeTV. Set your DVR and he'll have a new episode waiting for him every Sunday morning.

Some of the language may not be appropriate for a 10 year old. Depends on how you feel about such things.

Not a movie, but they do have a World War II submarine in Galveston if he's into submarines. I'm not sure if you can still go inside, but it's worth checking out if you can. However, if you have claustrophobia, I wouldn't suggest it. I don't, and I was still getting nervous while I was in there. I'm not sure how they did it back then; it's small and cramped inside. You probably had to be a specific size to serve on one back then, just like ball gunners.

There used to be one next to the USS Alabama in Mobile back in the day you could go in. Any idea if that one is still there?
