Commander's Palace Offering Shrimp and Tasso Corndogs on Gold Belly

Gold Belly
I love shrimp corndogs and these look delicious.
"One dish that’s always on the menu at Commander’s Palace is the iconic Shrimp & Tasso Henican—featuring pickled okra, five types of peppers, jumbo shrimp, Tasso and Crystal hot sauce, all staples of the Creole pantry. Craving an elevated tailgate bite, the team reimagined this classic at Café Adelaide in downtown New Orleans, transforming it into a playful take on America’s nostalgic festival treat.
This is not just any corndog. We’re talking Gulf shrimp and Tasso ham—a spicy, smoked pork integral to Cajun cooking—encased in a golden cornmeal batter and deep-fried to perfection. Served with the iconic, tangy, Shrimp & Tasso Henican sauce (Crystal Beurre Blanc and Five Pepper Jelly), these corndogs offer a fireworks display of smoky, savory, and sweet flavors."

As much as I love the idea of Goldbelly, it seems they have a ton of issues with shipping and people receiving spoiled/hot food :(
I only ordered from them once that I can recall, a few years ago, and it was some matzo ball soup which arrived fine. It's quite expensive. Free shipping isn't free. It's in the cost.
I was told, at least in the case of Commander's, it was actually shipped from them, but purchased via Goldbelly. I'm not really sure how it actually works. Do the stores ship to Goldbelly and then GB ships to the customer?

Well, they're shrimp and don't forget the two sauces!

How can it be legendary if it's not even something on their regular menu?

Never heard this said before.

Good point. Corndogs aren't on the menu. This is a play on the "legendary" Shrimp and Tasso Henican.

You must have missed some of my posts on them.

Sometimes I make them using Peter Sclafani's shrimp corndog recipe from Ruffino's. Sometimes, I use Alton Brown's recipe for regular corndogs, but make them with shrimp. Both are good. Ruffin posted the sauce recipe here many years ago.
I like homemade corndogs, period. Sometimes, I grill the hot dog weiners first and make them or I grill some sausage and make those.

I’ve had something similar at Vietnamese places (as Cha Gio Cuon Tom), but the dip is never good. I guess they remove the stick after cooking, how else would they be straight?

I think they'd stay straight when you wrap them tightly in the wrapper.
Would Mae Ploy sweet chili sauce be good on those? I would think so.

Saw an old Triple D episode recently making some sort of shrimp rolls. The cook/chef made several small relief cuts, not sure which side of the shrimp, to prevent curling in the fryer.
No idea what Commander's is doing.

Commander's are on a stick. You can see that in the picture I posted.

I think when Chef Chris Lusk was at Cafe Adelaide, he had created these for that menu. So they must feel this is easier to ship with good results than the original Shrimp and Tasso Hennican.
For the person who asked if restaurants ship to Goldbelly, I do believe all restaurants ship directly from their locations. I know when Central Grocery started shipping with GoldBelly, they were sent coolers from Goldbelly to ship their sandwiches in. This was several years ago though.

Yeah I get one is paying for an experience, but at that price I'm making them at home. They may be half as good, but they'll be 1/10 the cost.

I've since read on Goldbelly that most restaurants ship directly. Some use distribution centers.
So, basically, Goldbelly is hosting a website for ordering and handling the accounting, emails etc... Goldbelly and the restaurants have to make a profit to make it work.

They aren't hard to make at home with a corndog batter. One of the recipes I've used has you put cornstarch on the shrimp before dipping them in the batter. The batter sticks to the cornstarch. I use that for making them with hot dogs and smoked sausage as well.

Truth re shipping. I checked out a restaurant online for something I saw on Goldbelly. Price definitely higher on GB. Shipping is not free.

I just remembered that Haydel's moved to Goldbelly for ordering. I send the Kringle cakes to clients. This past December they weren't timely delivered and were stale by the time they reached the clients. Goldbelly would not refund. I got a credit I had to use.
The price increased, but not as much as I expected. I may not send them anymore. I wish they hadn't moved to Goldbelly. All of my previous orders through Haydel's worked out well.
