There are exceptions of course, but for the most part, you need that fricking warranty. The technology on vehicles today is out of control (I believe there was a thread about that on here not long ago).My brother just bought an $80,000 truck with no extended coverage. He drives almost 20,000 miles a year and keeps a truck a long time. So in less than 2 years his Denali will be completely out of warranty. Utter insanity to me. My warranty just paid a friendly $5800 claim for me. I paid the $100 deductible and that's it. That's a win for themetalreb. Where am I going wrong here?

work has over 30 company vehicles and would never buy warranties on them when planning to keep for 5 years which puts vehicle out of warranty before they will trade in. well it took ONE bad apple for them to now have extended warranty bought before vehicle is delivered.

Agree 100%

I drive quite a bit, I just traded in a 2022 with 96k miles bc my 100k mile warranty was about to run out.....i've had a few issues that thank goodness I didnt have to come out of pocket, but I wasnt about to chance going over 100k and something happens and I would have to come out of pocket....frick that

The worst part is the waiting for parts bc everything is on back order, so they keep your truck/car so you dont lose your place in line, wont give you loaner, so you end up having to rent a car.....which the warranty will pay for

The scare tactics worked on you. How much did you pay for that extended warranty?

We bought the extra warranty on the "infotainment" in our new ride. That's all I got.

My wife and I both have 2019 GMC vehicles and we both bought extended warranties. Each of our vehicles were in the shop no less than 5 times for large jobs while under warranty. Since the warranties expired back in 2023/2024 we've both had major transmission work done that was not covered by warranty. Her A/C also just went out (for the 2nd time) and the dealership wants $5500 to fix it. frick GM

I’ve never purchased a warranty on anything and never plan to.

Tundra - 230,000 miles, no issues.

I’ve been trying to reach you about your vehicle’s extended warranty.

for what price. I remember the last truck i bought the warranty offer started at like 4k...after a few back and forths i was all the way down to like 600 bucks... the warranty is a money maker for them.

I drive 25k a year and one of the reasons I bought my specific truck was a lifetime powertrain warranty was offered as an incentive. I have an emergency fund for any other repairs needed.

I think the full extended warranty for mine was around $2500 extra when I bought the truck. I'd prefer to roll the dice.

The good news is your brother can shop around for an extended warranty. The amount of money he can save by buying the warranty from a different dealership will be yuge. Some dealerships reduce warranty costs because of the number of warranties they sell. He can save thousands.

I save all the money that I would have spent on warranties for when something actually breaks. Then I pay for it with cash.

Guess who is winning, me or the warranty company?

That depends on alot of factors.

Heck, I bought a riding lawn mower in 2022 with a standard 2 year warranty.

This spring, I noticed the mower deck had rusted out and was causing an issue with one of the pulley's. If I had bought the extended warranty from Lowes, I probably would have gotten a new deck under the warranty. But instead, I will have to buy another one once my temporary fix breaks. The cost of the extended warranty would have been 250.

Most of those “bumper to bumper” warranties are trash and you’re sold that they will cover everything under the sun but whenever you have a problem you would be lucky to speak to anyone helpful and have anything covered. “It’s only an extra $65 per month” said the salesman (on your 84 month truck note) yeah no thanks, I’ll pay out of pocket if I need it.

Also mind boggling buying an $80k truck, especially averaging 20k miles per year

Extended warranties are fine, just dont buy them from the dealership

Can get them online for literally fractions of the dealership cost.

They would not sell warranties, if they lost money on them. Let that sink in.
