I'm not in awful shape, ran the crescent city classic this past year in 1:15 (slow i know) but went and saw a sleep doctor today and she wants me to drop 20 to improve my sleep. I've never been able to find a decent diet plan I could stick to for a long period of time. I did keto and I dropped 25 pounds, but it was miserable counting carbs and as soon as I stopped it slowly came back on.

So. Looking for advice on good meal preps or diet to drop this weight.

How about some more info!
Age, Height, Weight, current eating habits, Alcohol??

Answer these questions and you will probably answer your question.

In all seriousness give some info.

37, 5'7 190. Eating habits are all over the place if we're being honest. Cut way back on fast food. Really don't drink much anymore. Mostly water unsweetened tea and coffee to drink.

I would determine the reason why you are eating unhealthy? Is it because you don't have time and need something quick or just bad choices? Consider doing a meal prep and have each one assigned to a day and time. Even if it's 1 per day. Then increase from there.

Gotta figure that out. Even if it's fast food there are some options with low carbs/high protein. Popeyes blackened tenders , Jimmy John's unwich to name a few. I gave up bread, chips, dessert/any refined sugars and It made losing any type of weight extremely easy.

My advice is to get a DEXA type scan and see what your body comp is - that is more important than overall weight. It's highly possible for you to lose 20 lbs but not impact your health all that much.

This is a bullshite excuse. Decide if you want to be fat or not. It’s really that simple. Cue the people coming in and calling me an a-hole, but I’m telling the truth.

It takes 15 minutes to cook ground beef and rice is set it and forget it, and that’s a health meal

Do a meal prep on Sunday then. Weigh out your portions, do something like ground turkey with rice and broccoli, keep it simple. You're set for the week and don't have to think about food at all. Don't eat outside your prepped meals.

Put your info in a TDEE Calculator and find out what your daily intake should be to cut weight (it'll give you rates in which you want to lose).

Then download something like MyFitnessPal and start counting your calories. And start out measuring and weighing your food. You will be surprised how much food you're likely consuming.

Just cutting that alone should get you down a good ways. Just work on making small, sustainable lifestyle changes. Drink more water, add more protein to your diet, consistently working out.

Agreed here. I have a 3 & a 4 year old and 2 high energy dogs. My kids have never seen a McDonald’s. Not flexing or anything but if you make it a priority you will do it.

190 at 5'-7" is not bad at all if you have decent muscle mass.

I'm guessing if he's seeing a sleep doctor and is being advised to drop 20lbs, a lot of that 190 isn't muscle mass. He should be lifting and exercising, but his diet needs to change.

I disagree. We are just so used to looking at people that are overweight because the majority is. That's a BMI of somewhere around 30. If it was muscle he wouldn't be here trying to lose weight.

I dropped about 35 pounds by doing the below, I didn’t count calories or monitor intake. It may not be what professionals recommend but it’s what worked for me.
No breakfast
30-40 min workout during lunch break
Protein powder shake for lunch
Only black coffee and no soft drinks during the day.
Supper 3-5 times a week of green salad with a lean grilled protein.
3mile walk with weighted vest or 3m run without vest after meal.
Choc protein powder and ice smoothie as a night cap.
I would weigh myself twice a day and adjust miles or cheat days as needed and would eat regular home cooked meals with all the carbs 2–3 days a week based on what was going on. No alcohol or fast food of any kind. Along the way I got addicted to running and have run several races and a marathon so I pretty much eat what I want but limit alcohol and lost my taste for beer and haven’t ate fast food in almost 1.5yrs.

There's always one. Yes, there are a few elite athletes out there for whom this is true. The OP with his busy job and picky kids probably isn't one of them.

I'm three inches taller than the OP, I've lifted pretty heavy 3-4 days per week for the past 10 years, I weigh 176 lbs right now, and I realistically need to lose close to 10 lbs if I want to see good ab definition (i.e., I still have a little fat around my mid-section).

Our societal views of weight are so far gone that it's kind of sad.
