Main takeaway I gathered from putting that together is Skip woke a sleeping giant when he got here in the mid-80s. LSU baseball is the powerhouse program now

Difference in hosting a Super v. not is immense.

That regional home v. away record is vastly different too. I doubt there’s many teams that have a larger disparity between home v. road records in postseason than us. Not spending the amount of time I just did on other teams though. My colleagues all on the West coast so I had time to burn this morning

All 3 home super losses on Paul. Stony Brook, coastal and FSU. The worst probably being FSU

To Jay’s point about constantly reminding his team the regular season is a 56-game playoff, big disparity in the outcomes of these 2 types of seasons too:

Good stuff and would be a bit more decorated if we had allowed the 1961 SEC champions to compete in the NCAA regionals.
Unfortunately LSU had a ridiculous policy in the 1960s not allowing competition against black players.

Skip didn't "wake up" a giant. LSU was never a "giant" before he arrived. He MADE a giant.
No one gave much of a shite about LSU baseball before 1986. Skip built a program fans started to pay attention to in the late 80's. Then, in the early-mid 90's, he capitalized on the fact football and basketball were "down", to create the most fervent fanbase in the country.

Where are the 7 road regional losses?
1985 wherever we went I know we went 0-2
2010 UCLA
2018 Oregon St
2022 USM
2024 UNC

20 trips to Omaha in the past 40 seasons is absolutely mind blowing.

ETA: ill update record to 2-6 on road regionals, i also counted that 1995 season against us at home since it was played at the box (home regional losses were 1992 Cal St Fullerton, 1995 Rice, 2005 Rice, 2014 Houston)
We were 3-6 in road regionals, not 2-7 like I had in OP. Edited to fix… we won road regionals in 1987 UNO, 1989 A&M, 2021 Oregon)

Everyone is just looking at the playing home vs away, when we should also factor in that the Super Regional teams were better regular season teams, hence they were awarded a top 8 seed.

2 curious questions
Of those 13, how many times were they not a top 8 seed. How many were they not a top 16 team?

Not a top 8 seed in 2004 and 2019

quote:gotcha saw New Orleans and immediately thought Tulane hosted since they were also in the regional. 5 Louisiana teams in that regional plus CSF. For the record Cal St Fullerton was the national seed that year even though UNO hosted (same when LSU hosted in 1995 where Cal St Fullerton was the national seed).
UNO was the host of that 1987 regional.
Before I was born, but I see UNO was a top tier team back in the 80s. I suppose Skip must’ve saw that and realized if we put the resources into baseball that could be LSU and the rest was history
