How long do You keep your cigars in a humidor before smoking them? I have several in mine that have been there for 10 years

If you’ve kept the humidity correct they are still fine.

If it lasts more than a few months then I probably don’t like that cigar very much. I buy them to enjoy them, not admire them sitting in a box.

This, I don't really even keep them long enough to need a humidor.

I almost became a cigar smoker. A friend of mine had some good ones and told me where to order them from. Right before I ordered them I sat down at a coffee shop next to a guy who had his larynx cut out because of a throat cancer from cigar smoke. He said his doctor told him there's always smoke in the throat whether you inhale or not, hence the throat cancer.

Which is why I don’t smoke a pipe. Prefer a pipe to a cigar. Much better taste and smell IMO.

Speaking of cigars, I got a question and it may seem like a stupid question but here goes.

Is there a certain type, brand, or style of cigar that is the best or know for being good to chew?

Like the old men I see who just chew on the end and never seem to actually smoke them.

Good question.

I'm not a collector so when I purchase, I'm smoking. Maybe 2 months they stay put, but not longer.

Except for 1 special cigar that I had in the humidor for 29 yrs. It was a cigar from the box I bought for the birth of my first child, my son. Last year, his wife delivered his first child, my first granddaughter, and on his birthday, I gave it to him to smoke. I'm not even jesting when I say,

it
was
the
best
cigar
EVER!!!

The moment. The oily wrapper. All of it!

I usually keep them in my humidor for a few weeks to acclimate, whether they were bought an hour away, or online.

How is the pipe any worse for you than a cigar? You aren’t inhaling either of them.

I guess you could chew any of them but imo it would ruin the experience. The cigars I have in the humidor are north of $10, a few more $20 each. I’m not going to ruin them by chewing them like a chaw of tobacco.
Might try that with some cheap gas station brands

Cigars stink and the smell stays on a person for hours.Pipes smell much better but they don’t taste as good as they smell.

You're entitled to your erroneous perspective.

I have a few oldies, but I don't buy them to collect them. Sometimes I smoke em right out of the package.

I have cigars that are 20+ years old in my humidor. If you age them properly every single one of them is better than grabbing one fresh from the store. (I rotate them around.)

I’ve known of plenty of people who never smoked once (cigar, cigarettes or any other tobacco use) and got some kind of oral cancer, mouth, throat.
But obviously there’s a risk increase with using.

Cubans can be at their prime in 5-10 years. I've been smoking some from 2006 that are still fantastic.

New World non-Cubans aren't as good but can still be fine in that time, mostly strong Nicaraguans. But five is generally the max for me personally.

Lighter Dominican I wouldn't age pass 1-3 years personally.

It's all a guessing game though. Smoke what you like. Stored properly they'll never go 'bad'. Just flavors will fall off is all.
