The inventor of the Sarco gas chamber assisted suicide pod, Dr Philip Nitschke, has announced the creation of a ‘kill switch’ implant for people with dementia that would automatically release a lethal substance into the user’s body once they stop responding to daily prompts.

Nitschke, who is nicknamed “Dr Death” and “the Elon Musk of assisted suicide”, has told the MailOnline that his ‘kill switch’ implant is nearing the test phase.. The device would be sewn into a patient’s body – most likely in their leg – and set to beep and vibrate daily to warn the patient to turn it off.

If a patient’s dementia becomes so advanced that they ignore the beeping and vibrations, the mechanism would then release a currently unknown lethal substance into their body.

If I ever get dementia, I want "Dr Death" to be my doctor.

Well that's a completely ridiculous standard for general philosophical discussions of any sort.

I lost track of him after he retired from the Packers. Good to see he’s still busy and active.

Hardly. Its some dignity at the end of life.

Trust me by the time you get to that point you and your family have suffered enough.

If you don’t push a button, you get killed? That’s dignity at the end of life? You are ideologically committed to the dumbest things.

Guy must be a fan of Rube Goldberg machines. Seems you could think of something a little more simplified and less sudden.

You ever care for an advanced dementia patient...? clean their shite and piss diapers 4 or 5 times a day.....? watch them pick holes in their clothes and skin.....? watch them forget their family and forget how to swallow....? watch them cry, begging God to explain why they are still here...?
I have....
This idea is far from ghoulish...late stage dementia is hell on Earth for both the patient and caregiver.

Or we could have doctors just shoot them when they fail a dementia test...

There are many scenarios in which this dead man switch could activate that have nothing to do with advanced dementia.

Nah.

Suppose it was a Congolese Dr., would you be concerned? Do you believe in applying our standards to all other foreign nations?

I dont want my loved ones (or me) to suffer at the end of life so we can see how much god and jesus love us.

Ever seen the long goodbye up close? mother? father? not a happy ending.
