Do people take life too seriously?

General question but I’m starting to think many people seem to take life way too seriously.
Now I’m not saying it’s ok to be an unemployed adult with zero direction but just day to day life if you’re doing fine with an upward trajectory, why can’t you just lighten up? Sure there’s a balance but some people seemingly force way too much seriousness in their balance.
It just makes the day to day life seem more difficult than it needs to be.

Don't take life too seriously...
You'll never get out alive.

Maybe, but I’m not sure there’s a middle ground to be had here is there?
“Unemployed adult with zero direction” is one end of the spectrum, but the other is “employed, goal oriented adult”, right?
Being “in the middle” (if I'm hearing you right) would be “occasionally employed, sometimes focused, sometimes not” adult…that’s not going to get you anywhere.

idk, I think about some of the serious men and women out there over the decades that have solved incredible problems, and have built incredible things, and have saved many peoples lives and I think that there is a need for people who take things so seriously.

Yes. I've been working on this for ages and still worry all time about the stupidest shite.
I want to take more chances, have more experiences and stop letting inhibitions hold me back.

I think some people get wound up too much with their jobs. Unless you’re curing cancer, anyone can be easily replaced.
Everywhere I’ve worked there’s the ‘job security guy’. He’ll work 80 hours a week and bitch about it, yet won’t teach/train junior level employees anything. They, and management will try all avenues to take stuff off his plate and he gets overly protective. Then the company gets bought out and he’s done. The new company never misses a beat.
With that said, work hard, keep learning, navigate upwards, but keep an easy demeanor. Nobody is that important.

Absolutely.
It's hard to step back sometimes and realize that there are very few things in life that actually matter, but I try to do that as often as I can.

People don't take it seriously enough. There's an entire generation of gooners and trannies now because people collectively stopped taking things seriously

The degradation of community and family structures and the instant gratification/communication expectations on the steroids of modern communication and other technology provide fertile soil for all sorts of social and spiritual diseases.
We compare ourselves to others and most have very little meaningful, healthy frame of reference for “the good life.”
Life was shorter and more brutish in previous days. And people were consumed with the tasks of daily survival much more than we are today.
That has caused the basic things of life (again, family and community ) to take a backseat to the drive for comforts and status.
While there’s nothing new under the sun with respect to man’s fallen nature, the current manifestations are very depressing to me. I guess it’s the only ones one I really know. But social media wasn’t a thing at all until I was well into my 30s. So I can observe the before-and-after of that aspect.
In short, I’m not sure it’s so much about taking life seriously as it is disordered priorities and loves.

Depending on the goal, this is the middle. The other end I think you’re reaching for is the 24/7 grinder that lets nothing stop them from reaching their goals, damn relationships and friendships and stability.

People definitely overthink most things.

I take it seriously. That’s the only way I can take it. Sometimes I wish I was one of these people who don’t give a shite about anything. I’m just not wired that way though.

100%. Folks need to chill out.
People get really wound up about the stupidest stuff. Especially at work. People make their jobs, their hobbies, their politics, and their lifestyles their entire personality and take life, and especially themselves, way too seriously.

Personally? From year to year I want to meet all of my work, health and relationship goals. In the long term, I want to retire and rest on what I’ve built (nest egg, great relationships, functioning limbs

Indeed.
If youre at least average, you'll land on your feet regardless. People are just programmed to be neurotic.

Me, too. Sometimes I wish I didn't care. But then I look at people who don't care and realize why I do.
