First I would like apologize for starting this thread, but maybe it is needed. I will admit I know very little about this bill. All I know from reading threads here is Elon doesn't like it. I have perused the board as usual, but not a whole lot of actual factual info about the bill being discussed as far as I could tell.

So I would like to have pros and cons discussion about the BBB. I feel there are mixed feelings within the parties concerning this bill.

What is it it that you like and what is in it that you don't like. Be specific if you can. And also, please try to keep the discussion cordial.

Is this bill good or should it be dead in the water?

Quick AI Google of what the bill does:

quote:

What does the Big Beautiful Bill do?
AI Overview
The "One Big Beautiful Bill" is a proposed budget and tax bill that includes several key provisions. It would make the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) permanent, expand certain provisions like the small business tax deduction, and make other changes to tax laws, spending, and government programs. The bill also includes provisions related to border security, energy policy, and social programs.
Here's a more detailed look at some of the key aspects of the bill:
Tax Provisions:
Makes the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) Permanent:
.
This includes lower corporate and individual tax rates, increased standard deductions, and changes to itemized deductions.
Expands the 199A Deduction:
.
This deduction, which allows taxpayers to exclude up to 20% of their pass-through business income from federal income tax, would be expanded to 23% and made permanent.
Eliminates Taxes on Tips and Overtime:
.
The bill proposes eliminating taxes on tips and overtime, potentially raising the take-home pay for many workers.
Other Tax Cuts:
.
The bill also includes other tax cuts, such as increasing the child tax credit to $2,500 per family and providing historic tax cuts for seniors.
Impact on Clean Energy:
.
The bill would effectively end most clean energy tax credits, reversing a large chunk of former President Biden's climate agenda.
Spending and Government Programs:
Deficit Reduction:
The bill includes provisions to reduce the deficit, including mandatory spending cuts.
Border Security:
The bill would increase funding for border security, including border patrol and ICE agents.
Work Requirements:
The bill would implement work requirements for able-bodied Americans receiving taxpayer-funded benefits.
Medicaid:
The bill would protect Medicaid for Americans who truly need it.
Social Programs:
The bill would also address other social programs, including those related to health insurance and income support.
Other Provisions:
Permitting Processes:
The bill includes provisions to streamline permitting processes, potentially allowing for more construction and development.
Energy Policy:
The bill would reverse electric vehicle mandates and end Biden's "war on American energy," according to the White House.

I haven't seen much factual info in threads. Seems those threads just turn into mind numbing bickering.

Here are some facts that nobdy talks about.

1- We are operating under the Biden Budget.

2- This cuts his spending

3- Cuts to medicaid

4- Makes tax cuts permanent.

More cuts are coming but have to be done via rescission packages due to SENATE RULES that Rand evidently is clueless on.

I actually appreciate this thread and thank you for highlighting some of the things in the bill, because like you I wasn't exactly sure what all was in it. Just from what you provided from AI Google I don't really have a problem with any of that and think they are all reasonable. Of course just like anything there is more to it and it goes deeper but at this point I don't have the time to really dive into it.

It's not good and no bill moving forward will be good. They put a few good things in there and cram in complete BS for the rest.
If they want to cut taxes then pass a bill that ONLY cuts taxes.
These people are lazy criminals who just want to keep the money flowing.

The bill isn't the issue. It's the process.

Only two things I for sure know.

1. This keeps Trump's Tax Policy in place. Failure to re-new puts us back to Obama's Tax Policy which was higher.

2. Medicaid cuts are not talking about benefits to individuals from what I understand.

I can see why libs hate everything about that list, but our resident principled conservatives, libertarians, and cagey above the frey independents are confusing.

I gathered nearly zero knowledge from those other threads.

What are you talking about and can you point me towards one of the better, more informative threads?

Also, can you tell us what you hate most about the bill and how it adds to the deficit?

And sidebar: are the claimed additions to the deficit over a specific timeframe? And if so, do folks use the life of the bill as the timeframe? That would make a little sense to me. But opponents of these things using big numbers with no context to any span of time irritates me to no end. It’s all so goddamn convoluted and biased that we can’t even discuss the shite here.

True.

But we don’t know how it will look and what the senate will do to it.

Will we get permanent 2017 tax cuts without the no tax on tips and ot? Or will we get all of it?

These are things we don’t know yet.

Also have gop senators that don’t want to make cuts to Medicaid.

It’s basically if you are young and not handicapped physically or mentally. You get to work and pay your own insurance. Like any decent member of society does.

Who here has read the bill in it's entirety?

Doubt anyone, including me.

Every single one of us is going off of talking points, MSM, X, and their favorite politician's or podcaster's soundbite.

ask it to analyze section 43201 of that H.R.1 bill

i saw on the social medias that its aiming to replace some of department of commerce with AI models, but there is also a 10 year period that no state or agency can make regulations in regards to the AI models

seems odd to have no regulations for it, but im a skeptic of AI

That's why I started the thread. There are Rs opposing the bill. Elon opposes the bill.

I remember reading on here that some Rs oppose the bill because it doesn't do the MAGA things we want done fast enough.

I think the normal opposition opposes it because that is just what they do..
