I tried this out today. Heard a lot of controversy about it. Fake reviews and lines out the block in terms of popularity.

I heard from several people ahead of time it was overrated and as I showed up to pick up my order, there was a very disgruntled mother who muttered “this shite ain’t worth the line.”

The store was extremely extremely extremely busy. Yes, the line was almost going out the door but I ordered ahead for pickup. I ordered ahead of time so no issue. The staff was very nice but obviously flustered.

I got two sliders and the cheese fries.

Cheese fries were fine, did the job. The sliders…. Too much chicken. The chicken was mediocre on its own. The standout was Dave’s sauce and I didn’t really want to eat a bite of the chicken without Dave’s sauce. I also thought the bread was tasty and that also helped from a sandwich aspect. Thing is there’s way more chicken than could fit with the bread and the sauce.

I think I got mildly spicy.

I have no clue why this place is so popular.

I live in city with several "hot chicken" places.

Tried Dave's first. It was ok.

Richie's is better. Website

My son was stationed in Saudi (USAF) and one thing they had there was Dave's Hot Chicken, which he appreciated. He had never seen it before in the US, but now that's he's back in the US, he's a fan.

I’ve only been to the one in Houston on Westheimer.

I first tried it in like 2022 and I’ve been back once.

It was really good and I wish we’d get one in NOLA.

You went to a chicken restaurant and this is your complaint? Sounds like maybe Cane's is more your speed.

and the cheese fries

The cheese fries never seem to be great at fast food spots, the cheese sauce makes the fries soggy usually. Their regular fries are pretty good.

You may be the first person I have ever seen complain about too much chicken on their sandwich, especially in todays environment.

Going to a "hot chicken" joint, getting "mildly spicy" and complaining the chicken was lack luster?

Overall, I think it is a solid fast food hot chicken place. I think most people would appreciate getting a lot of meat on their chicken sandwich. The bread and sauce are good, and the fries are usually good and crispy when I've had them. I'd say it is a really solid fast food joint.

I remember being completely underwhelmed. Been a long time but I remember small tenders, shitty fries, high prices. Worse than Canes.

I've had Richie's. It was pretty good but I was only renting that meal. The 14-minute drive home termed out.
