I have no words. Just finished the first half and the amount of star power and pop culture launched by him is insane.

I knew about the Groundlings and have watched everything he's done including the 1981 HBO special but I clearly know nothing about him.

He wasn't just a part of the 80s . He CREATED a significant part of the 80s.

I'm at a loss for words.

Only ever saw him when he was on Letterman. Never thought he was particularly funny. Was kinda annoying. Just didn’t get him I guess.

Maybe not launch, but the success of the character Pee Wee Herman, alone, gave a big shove to Tim Burton, Danny Elfman and Phil Hartman, just to name three.

In Big Adventure, Pee Wee is trying to get off the phone with Dottie when he says ‘Let me, let you, let me go’

I’ve used that tongue twisting line many many times.

Pee Wees Playhouse was ridiculously quirky and beautiful.

I was chastised by many of my classmates in 4th grade for loving Pee Wee.

I took the heat because it was futile; dude was cool to me.

Yeah, I kept meaning to create a thread about it after watching last weekend .

They deliberately targeted him for destruction of his reputation. Sadly, there is an established pattern of behavior from the entertainment industry to do this across that period of time.

Pee Wee Herman was great with his Playhouse for kids and his Big Adventure movie.

He nailed the drug dealer character in Blow also.

I would like to see the documentary.

He said it in the doc as well. I’m about halfway through part 2 where they just got to the arrest. I’ve enjoyed it a lot.

I don’t remember so much innuendo and sort of gay stuff on PeeWee. Looking back it stands out. But he even said at one point he tried to write things that adults would catch that would go over kids’ heads. So I guess that was true.

He does seem like a fairly annoying person IRL though. I liked how they left in the clips of him annoying the filmmakers because he wouldn’t shut up.

You'll dislike him after you see it. He was a pedophile.

Him and Tiny Tim were 2 of the oddest characters I've seen in the media over the years. Although Pee Wee did have a much better career than Tiny Tim even dreamed about.

I used to smoke weed and watch Pee Wee's Playhouse when I was in my early 20's. Couldn't believe it was supposed to be for kids.
