The American buyer has forgotten it has power. If people refused to buy new vehicles at $60k the price would have to come down.

Normally, I'd be getting close to replacing my 8 year old truck. I'm not even starting to consider it yet. I hope I can get 15 years out of it at this point

people with money do not give a frick about inflation b/c it doesn't affect them... thats the rub in your hypothesis, bro

Supply and demand, buddy, supply and demand.

The momentum for a movement quickly wanes because people generally aren't going to stick with it long enough for the action to matter (especially for something like this which would take months, possibly years).

There are always suckers out there who can't wait to blow money on useless shite when they have bills they need to pay (for example, new car sales have continued to stay high even while new car prices and loan defaults have climbed, subprime defaults are now around the same level they were in 2008-2009).

I feel like as a family of 5 we no longer do anything.

Restaurants are 100+ for us
Bowling close to 150
Just get out of the house and shop around? Hundreds.

Backed out of our beach vacation this year because the house we normally rent is now 900 bucks a night.

Looked at renting a lake house or a short beach vacation and the prices are unreal. 400 a night to rent a house on a lake in Alabama.

450 a night for a condo in Gulf shores.

I feel like we just sit and home and be broke, and my wife and I are both 6 figure earners with no car payments.

The problem is most of us don't have a clue what we pay for something. I know that sounds insane but most of us pay no attention to what things cost. People who are counting pennies do and smart people do but most of just buy the shite we need and want and pay little to no attention as to what they cost. I buy 36 grade a eggs almost every week. I would have never known they had gotten expensive if I didn't hear other people talking about it. I can't tell you if they are cheaper now, I suspect they are because people ain't bitching about it like they were, but I simply put them in the buggy and get on with life.

I bought 2 small lots to build spec houses on last week. Price wasn't part of the equation, I know what the market is for the spec houses and what it will cost to develop....I may have saved $5k had I been concerned but I wasn't, they were where I wanted to build and they require almost no dirt work. Not the best business decision obviously but it is not that unusual except when the buyer is extremely cost conscious.

If you listen to people who are cost conscious you'd think we were living in end times when in fact inflation is about what it always is....it wasn't a few years ago but it has become so again. You wouldn't know it listening to people driving a brand new $80k pickup truck.....

Me, my wife and one daughter went to an LSU baseball game a few weeks ago and grabbed some lunch beforehand. I bet that afternoon outing cost me like $300.
