Has to be Tom Cruise right?

Despite his weird personal life the dude shits gold.

Clint Eastwood

Harrison Ford

Hanks

Downey

Denzel

Will

All these others are good but dang it Tom Cruise is just a gift to us all and he’s been doing it for his entire career.

Edit to add that Leo is definitely in the Convo

He’s better than all of those.

Some may be better actors, but Tom is a better movie star.

The recency bias here is amazing.

The list of good/great movies Hanks has been a part of is insane.

That is also certainly biased for a certain time period of actors

I’d say that’d fall under current times still.

Hanks is definitely up there.

I’d say he’s definitely a better actor, but I feel like more of Tom’s movies are must see.

He's arguably the only actor to have the same "movie star" status that was once more common in the industry, but once you add "of all time" he's just one of many.

I can agree to that. He has outlasted all his contemporaries though. People like Will Smith and Denzel were hot commodities and then poof.

But Tom just shows up and makes fun flicks

No.

Based on your list, I think it probably is Cruise, followed by Ford. They've got the best combination of critically acclaimed performances combined with multiple franchises. Cruise has Top Gun and Mission Impossible, Ford has Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jack Ryan, Blade Runner and the Marvel bullshite. Both have great longevity. Neither has won an Oscar but both have been nominated, Cruise multiple times. Cruise will probably win one before it's over.

I'm not sure Cruise is the greatest of all time, but he is definitely the greatest over the last forty years.

Its John Wayne. Cruise is probably top 3 or top 5 though.

Harrison Ford has much more range than cruise and makes way more diverse movies over the range of his career. Tom Cruise is the bigger action star though for sure

IMO it’s Tom Cruise. Tom Hanks is also arguable.

But the true #1 is most likely someone from the golden age of Hollywood. Maybe someone like Brando or Bogart. Back when movies were a MUCH larger part of society and movie stars were true stars and had a certain "aura" that was essentially above normal people.

If I had to choose someone older from back then, I’d maybe choose Jimmy Stewart.

But in all honesty, Marlon Brando may be the true #1. I think we underestimate his stardom since we didn’t live through it.

idk, maybe tom cruise

I feel like he left behind his dramatic rolls a little too early in his career.

Can’t deny the star power and the resume
