Fake handicap parking tag

We came to beach today for my daughter’s third birthday at Hilton Head. We got here around 10:00 or so and so had to do a few laps to find a parking spot. Around our third or fourth time around we found one. It just happened to be next to the handicap spots.
Next thing we see is a late 90s Tahoe pull up with two very in shape gentleman who park in the handicap spot. The driver pulls a tag out of his console and puts it on the rear view mirror. They then get out and carry a ton of stuff to the beach so obviously not physically handicapped. Made my blood boil. What if an actual handicapped person came to the beach and decided to turn around because of no spots?

This makes me irrationally angry as well. When I lived in an apartment I would see this all the time.

What if a non-handicapped person came to the beach and decided to turn around because there were no spots?

What you should be really pissed off about is those same people are probably getting disability payments from Social Security.

Put nails under their tires.

You should see the 'bodybuilders' who pull up in jacked up trucks at Red Lerilles's in Lafayette. They get out of their giant vehicles with their gallon of water in their bodybuilding gear and work out for 2 hours. Yet they have a handicapped tag b/c they have PTSD or some "medical" condition that allows them to get the tag. I don't know how they could not be totally embarrassed by doing this, but they don't. It's not just one or two, there are several.

Steroids give you PTSD now?

Blame the doctors. People will always try to scam. But doctors should be professionals and do what’s right.
Yeah yeah I know. Pretty naive.

I’m old and, even when my left knee gave me trouble after shoveling 4 trailer loads of dirt for a project, I still parked a distance from grocery store entrances because someone in poorer health may need the closer spots. Yes, I care about others.
But, these goons who have no obvious disability use grammaw’s handicapped tag in the Challenger just to walk short distances, do get under my skin!

Well it’s gotten on a whole new level. Trash now just park on the sidewalks in front of Walmart while they wait for their babies momma to come out. I’d say something but yall know why I don’t.

Memorial Day Weekend at a public beach access in Hilton Head is just asking for something to piss you off.

Meet and get to know someone with a real disability and see what it takes for them just to get to the starting line of their day and then take a deep breath while knowing how blessed your able bodied life is.

I hate this but I’ve never said anything to anyone that does it. I did see a personal vehicle in the police spot at the local Bogalusa walmarks once and happened to notice the wife of a cop shopping inside. When I came out the jail employee was sitting in his personal truck in the police spot. I jokingly asked if that was what the spot was for and he was completely oblivious to the nature of the question. He legitimately had no idea the spot was for a cop to come pick up shoplifters. He thought it was a courtesy for police officers to use on their shopping trips.

My thoughts on this: even if you are truly handicapped, you should not park in these spaces if you don't have problems walking (ambulatory problems). People with hearing, vision, emotional issues, obesity, etc, should not park in these spots.

In my state, you can get two tags if you have two vehicles. What often happens is that the adult child of a handicapped senior will use the spare for their own personal convenience.

I had one of my parents spares for taking them to doctors appointments but not for things like shopping. I would park in a regular spot and I would just leave then in the car with it running and AC. They are almost 90.
Never used to for myself. People that do that are pure trash. I don’t care what your pedigree is.

Agreed. I have handicapped plates for my wheelchair-bound son, but I will often not use the handicapped spot because I figure I can walk and push my son in from the back of the lot.
My bigger concern is having clearance for the wheelchair lift, not distance from the entrance.

I went to Costco today and got there just as it was opening. Everyone was in a nice, orderly line going in. One guy didn’t think it applied to him so he skipped the entire line. Really one of those people that annoy me

Most of them don’t do standing in line very well. Straight to the front, and I dare you to say something. It is owed to them.
