If you use "@" before the poster's username it will send them a private message. Try it out...

One of my longest standing complaints about TD is the lack of a generic box to type a generic post into, that everything is a “reply” to someone. This is the only forum I’ve ever posted on that is structured that way.
With that said, to compensate for that deficiency, I always try to reply to the post I’m addressing, and to get rid of any confusion, I endeavor to also quote the content of that post.

It’s obviously minor, but it’s a mild inconvenience to read a few pages worth of posts, want to reply to the OP, and have to navigate back to the start of the thread to “reply” to their post. I’ve never been on another forum that didn’t let you do a generic post on a thread from wherever you were within that thread.
