Short video explaining how Louisiana defrauds federal govt for health money

Other states do this as well. It explains how Louisiana was able to massively expand Medicaid without raising taxes.
This scheme is shameful.
Does it not bother you that the state govt is engaging in money laundering with hospitals?

You might not like or agree with it but they are not defrauding or laundering money. Every state does this, not just Louisiana and everyone knows about it and the federal gov has regulations concerning how these taxes are spent. It has became a de-facto part of the system.

Let me predict one of your many daily dumbass threads in 6 months:
All these uninsured people are showing to up to health care facilities and properly insured people cant get treatment. How oh how did this happen??

Joe Biden, Obama, and other federal dems have all said on record that Louisiana’s scheme is wrong and a scam.
quote:
It’s a scam, Biden agreed. The states were gaming the system, taxing doctors and hospitals so they could get federal reimbursements and then returning the money to the providers. Let’s call it like it is, and let’s just do this. … It could save $40 billion. “If we can’t do this—” the vice president said, “come on!”

Medicaid is state run welfare with increased coverages induced by Obamacare. This is likely part of that Obamacare inducement. Louisiana didn’t partake initially, but I think Edwards greenlit Louisiana entering into Obamacare medicaid increase coverage.
Regardless of being a part of Obamacare or not this should forward to DOGE as its federal wasted money.
Do states even still go back and collect past expenditures from estates of past users who increased their wealth after qualifying for and using medicaid earlier in their lives?

Ok.
But now we need your comment on the right now prospect of dumping 10s of millions people off Medicaid. And I am not a fan of the current system but it is a system.
Dumping these people and "hoping" the states can handle the influx of non payers is going to be a disaster. There is a reason Trump didnt want the dump to occur until 2029.

Would not accomplish a single thing.

Agreed. We'd be better off sending all the money to fund wars in Ukraine

We would be better off not spending it at all.

Hm, is this like Real ID, where there are decades of warning, and then states act shocked, shocked I tell you, to learn that federal largesse may not continue in perpetuity!
I don't give a shite. Obama care was always back end loaded to ensure that any consequences could/would come after certain people were out of office.
Insurance companies already deal with non-payers, which is why an imaging test "costs" $1,500 when "paid" through insurance, but $150 if you pay with cash.

What dumping are you referring to?
Are you referring to the eligibility checks?
Current CBO estimates are that there are over 2 million Americans on Medicaid who do not qualify.
What’s unreasonable about enforcing eligibility rules?

Yeah. It’s terrible. Let’s cancel Medicaid completely. Would solve a lot of LA’s problems eventually.

The video states that providers make more money but it looks like the provider was +$100 in both scenarios.
Also if providers can make more money how does a provider sign up for these extra payments? Asking for a colleague. I am an honest provider and would never defraud the federal government or state government or do anything nefarious.

Nice straw man.
All I want is for states to uphold their end of the bargain.
It’s a very reasonable request. Louisiana should pay for their portion of Medicaid spending via things like income tax increases, sales taxes, etc
As federal officials correctly note, it’s not fair to use accounting gimmicks.

Well if those individuals say it’s wrong then that is a net positive for the scheme.

Let hospitals have guys with a few beanbag shotguns act as bouncers instead of forcing them to treat bums

Every greedy dependent nursing home on Medicaid in the state will shut down if this happened.
I remember hearing that the eldery Medicaid population in nursing homes are the ones driving the excessive costs of Medicaid in the states, and not Kidmed and other backstop insurance for those who qualify.

I wonder if this is why Ochsner has been exploding in the past few decades. I heard they were doing shady stuff with Medicaid money. I bet they are all in bed with the politicians that are facilitating these schemes.
