Been noticing a trend at a local restaurant we frequent where they do special nights. By reservation only. Seating is limited. Set time. One seating. Primarily an older crowd most of the time.

Increasingly, some are coming in and "tipping" chairs before you're supposed to sit down way earlier to reserve spots. Not just one or two. Sometimes you walk in and most are already "tipped".

You have to pre-pay so you just can't come in and whup some arse because you'd lose your money and you'd miss dinner. Maybe you could just sit and play dumb and say "sorry, thought it was for the XXX Dinner". Or...

So, I'm coming to the O-T with this serious breach of seating etiquette for a solution.

The struggle is real.

I'm confused. If you have reservations, why do you need to reserve seating?

I'm confused. If you've paid in advance to reserve, you have a table. Some jackleg that didn't pay and didn't reserve tipping a chair over doesn't mean shite.

Sit in the chair you want to when you show up and ignore the protests of the assholes who are trying to save seats. Or attempt to have sex with the wife who was saving seats. I'd say right there on the table, but I don't know how fancy this place is.

The reservation is for this dinner they do. But it's open table for seating when you first come in.

They allow more reservations than they have seating?

No. Set number of people. Number of seats in the room equal number of people that made reservations, so they don't sell more than they can seat for example.

Simply stop going to the restaurant and tell them why. They are allowing this, don’t support it.

Gotcha. Just more of a seating together thing if you come with a group.

Seems like an easy fix for the restaurant to tell people they can't save seats.

Well then why do you care if a group wants to sit together?

If you want to choose your seat, go earlier and tip your chair

I remove towels on lounge chairs and I'll sit in these seats too.

If the offender protests, remember they are the ones breaking the social contract, not you.

Prepaying is annoying but I suppose I would do it for a restaurant I liked

Special nights/limited seating is annoying, but same

Combining that with this turf warring by patrons, and I'm out. I'll jump through dumb hoops for culty/renowned places once just to say I did it, but I'm not doing it for some local haunt

Unless they have paid for reserved seats, a tipped chair means nothing. People get weirdly territorial about stuff like this.

They are allowed into the restaurant early to tip the seats? But asked to line up to enter all at once? Not sure on the logistics here but I would sit where you want. If it evolves into an argument, put it back on the management for allowing this jackassery.

So I call and make a reservation for a table of 6. When we are seated, will there not be 6 chairs there?

So when they come in they tip a chair to let the host know they are there?
